` HOLDER.
Application lfiled. September 8, 1925. Serial No. 54,990.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it. known that I, Hanni' L. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Test Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in I-Iolders, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relates to improvements in holders. V-
An objectisto provide a holder formed with a metal bacl: `which may be attached to a wall or the like with a pair of arms which may be held in horizontal extended position with a light wire brace supporting the arms in such horizontal extended position. lThe brace is adapted to be discon nected from the plate to allow folding of the arms and the brace against the wall.
My invention will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my holder in its operative position extended from the wall. Y
Fig. 2 is a front view of the holder folded or collapsed, with the arms and the supporting brace against the wall plate or panel.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig. 2 in the direction of the arrow 3.V
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a type of arm formed from a channel-shaped strip of metal, a portion beingcut away and bent to form a hook.
In the drawings, a wall plate or panel is designated by the numeral 1 and has a fiatweb 2 with side flanges 8. A serieszof apertures l are Aformed in the web to Vpermit securing the panel to the wall. A pair of piv oted arms `5 are secured to the flanges `by pintle pins 6 to allow the arms to swivel up and down. In the form shown the arms are placed outside of the flanges.
A brace 7 formed of wireor a stiff. rod has a pair of parallel bars 8 bent inwardly at their lower ends 9 and with an upwardly extending loop 10 which engages a stud 11 having a nut 12 to prevent disengagement of the loop. rIhe metal of the brace has sufficient resiliency to permit spreading of the loop whereby the neel; portion 13 may be pressed over the stud 10. The brace isshown secured to the arms 5 by means of outvafdf ly extending ends 14.- which pass through apertures 15 in the arms and are formed with a riveted head 16 to prevent with drawal through the arms.
This construction allows the loop of the brace to be disconnected from the stud 10 and the base to be swivelled upwardly against the web 2 between the ianges 3 of the panel 1 and the arms 5 to be swivelled downwardly forming a compact position for the holder as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
A series of hooks 17 are attached to the lower ends of the arms depending therefrom as shown in Fig. 1, to allow articles to be suspended from the arms of the holder. These hooks occupy a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 3 and allow articles to be attaced thereto, 'hanging close against the wa My holder may be made of use to support a variety of household utensils or as a support for clothing or the like. The details of construction may be considerably changed to suit special requirements or circumstances ,and to form a holder ,for different types of objects, without departing from the spirit of my invention. A A
In Fig. l I show an alternative type of arm to that designated by the numeral 5 of Figs. 1, 2 and 3. In this case the arm is formed with a channel-shaped strip of metal 20 having a web 21 and flanges 22 with an aperture 23 through thevflanges for Vthe insertion of extending ends 14 of the brace 7. In this type of arm a cut 211 is made in the flanges, the metal of the out being bent somewhat parallel to the bar to form a hook 25.
`.Having described myA invention, what 'I claim is:
1. A holder comprising in combination a supporting panel having a web and a pair of vertical flanges, a pair. of arms pivotally connected to the lianges, a brace pivotally connected to the outer ends of the arms and having a resilient loop at its inner end and a stud secured to the web of the panel adapted to engage the loop and hold the arms in extended position.
2. A holder comprising in combination a wall panel having an elongated web with an outwardly extending iiange on each edge., a pair of arms pivotally connected to the up per ends of the flanges, a brace formed of loo nire) sivielly connected lo the outer ends 3. In aholder, an erin formed of angularoi the niins, said brace having a pail' ofsuh shaped metal having a web and a flange, n stnniiially parallel bars, an upwardly extond- Cut formed in the flange and the metal olf 10 ing loop formed at the lower ends of the said said cut being bent to form a hook.
bars and a stud projecting from the lower In testimony whereof I have signed nl): end of a `web adapted to engage the loop lo naine to this specification.
hold the arms in extended position. HARRY L. SNYDER.
