FIGURE TOY.
Application filed October 9, 1924. Serial No. 742,616.

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER R. MAR- CHAND, a citizen of the United States, re* siding at Baton Rouge, in the parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as 0 will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains, to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, and particularly to ligure toys.
One object of the invention is to provide a toy of this character which is simple and cheap in its construction, and which will produce grotesque movements, when reciprocated, to simulate the dancing of a jig.
AnotherL object is to provide joints for the legs which will permit certain swinging movements thereof, while the arms are so connected as to permit swinging movements in practically all directions.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a ligure toy made in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional detail view through one of the leg and' foot joints.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the body of the toy, which is shown as a rectangular block of wood. Secured to the upper end of the body is one end of a vertically extending coil spring 11, and secured to the upper end of this spring is the lower end of the neck 13, of the figure, which has the head 14 mounted on its upper end. Secured to the side portions of the upper end of the body 10 are the downturned inner ends of the inverted angular U-shaped plates 15, the other ends of said plates projecting beyond the sides of the body, and being turned downwardly, as shown at 16. The lower end of each of the portions 16 is formed with a head 17 which is received in the loop 18 of the metal plate 18, carried by the upper end of the upper arm portion 19. To the opposite sides-of the lower end of each of the upper arm portions 19 are secured the ends of the wire 20, the bight portion of which is engaged'through the loop 21 of the plate 21, which is secured to the upper end of the lower arm portion 22. Thus both the upper and lower arm portions of each arm of the figure may swing in any direction, or rotate, to produce grotesque motions. Secured to the opposite sides of the lowerend of the body 10 are the ends of a length of wire 23, the intermediate portion of which is secured to the center of the lower end of the body, by means of the staple 24. The upper end of each upper leg portion 25 has secured thereto a looped plate 26, similar to the plate 21, and engaged through the loop of each of these plates 26 is the bight portion of the wire 23, which lies at the sides of the central staple 24. The lower end of each upper leg portion 25 has a single looped wire 27 which is engaged in the looped portion of a plate 28, secured to the upper end of the lower leg portion 29. In the lower end of each lower leg portion 29 there is secured a stem 30, which is disposed through an opening in the center of the looped portion of a plate 31, carried by the foot 32, said stem having a head 33 lying within the loop. The leg portions are thus adapted to swing forwardly and backwardly on the hinges formed by the wires and stems, and the looped plates, while the arms may perform waving motions.
In the front and back of the upper portion of the body 10 there are formed the openings 34, in which is adapted to be engaged one end of a substantially Z-shaped wire 34', of comparatively heavy gage, which is held in the hand of the operator, and moved upwardly and downwardly to cause the figure to perform the motions of a jig dance.
What is claimed is:
