`Be it known that I, RUSSELL WILEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riverside, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Imwhich the following is a specification.
The present invention relatesto improvements in the refininor of hydrocarbon'oils, and more articulary to the recovery of volatile hy rocarbons, such as lighter gasoline fractions, from refining and natural gases.
In accordance with the present invention the hydrocarbon gases to be treated for the recovery of gasoline constituents are subjeoted to the absorbent action of reduced crude oil,by which term is designated the lresidue resulting after distillation from crude oil of its kerosene and lighter constituents by steam or by steam and lire. 'A suitable reduced crude is, for example, a bottom obtained by distilling oft- 15 to 25% from a mid-continent crude withlire and steam. This may suitably be effected in a counter-currentabsorber of customary type, the absorber being held under the same pressure as the gases being treated or higher. The gas freed from its gasoline constituents passes intoa dry -gas line which leads it to a suitable reservoir.
' The reduced crude oil leaving the absorbers carries with it the absorbed gasoline constituents of the gas. These, .in general, are not yproperly proportioned for a motorfuel gasoline, the proportion of higher boiling point fractions of high fuel value being low. This reduced crude oil is next admixed with normal crude oil containing its natural kerosene and lighter fractions. The process of refining oils for the production of. gasoline which comprises Subjecting hydrocarbon gases containing gasoline constituents to the absorbent action of reduced crude oil, admixing the reduced crude oil with crude oil containing gasoline and heavier constituents, the said reduced crude forming 20 to 50% ofthe mixture, and fractionally distilling the mixture.
