This invention pr marily relates to bindorder binders, sales-books, and. the 'like.". i
cept is not restricted in its applicatiomfit a special utility as abirider iorfloose and the like;
for binding larger sheets-01? the orderro'i One feature which peculiar to'iny strucno stub, perforated or otherwise is not resorted to to hold the leaves or sheets inpla ce. otherwords, 'I provide instrunientaliti'es-such as a binder de vicejwhich at all times held evenly and includes postsfoi" maintaining the leaves or sheets "in position but, at [the same time,
per-fitting ready removal ot'one or more sheets without *in' any "way disturbing the other 1 or ithje adj ustrnent Ofthe binding device, "itself, forming a; componentof the structure. The sheets, nevertheless, are securely. a
It is contemplated among the objects of the invention to provide a binder having outer. cover members of permanent form and adapted to be used in conjunction with any number of sheets or fillers, and having, also, a binder device secured to one of the cover members more or less permanently and provided with posts or lugs upon which the filler-leavesare carried and by which they are, for the most part at least, 'maintained in place. The binder device includes, in addition to the element secured a detachable element of such construction as permits it to be in terlocked with the permanent element and i to become associated therewith by a sliding engagement and having a groove or an elon ated depression with which the posts 1n the component parts are of simple consembled.

" 3. is a fragmentary View, insection and on anenlarged scale, and taken on line ars-4m I fFigfl'f-is fa vi ew injtop plan :of the structure''with the leaves removedand-th detachable element of the bindery device out of position to show therelation of the co-acting parts In the drawing, the reference character I 1 designatesna coverinemberv or back. of a book or the like','t'o which is secured a body: portion 2 of onecoi'hponent-oi' a binding-dc vice,'as'-by'rivets r portion, then bent back upon itself, and then carried downwardly in spaced relation to the upstanding portion-to constitute a clip portion 4. Suitably mounted on the body portion 2 are upstanding posts or lugs 5 which, in the present instance, are struck from the material forming the-body portion of the binder device anduponwhich leaves 6 are adapted to be "carried. L Go-acting with the component just described is another component, this having a top portion 7 provided with a ridge 8 struck into the metal to form a groove on its under surface. for the reception of the outer'or free ends of the posts 5. Extending from this portion '1 is an angulated portion 9, bent back upon'itself'to constitute'a clip-portion 10, and carried in spaced relation to the porportion 4 on the other and'maintaining the 1 groove in the top 7 in contact-with the tops 05 1- is a fragmentary view, in 'topof the posts. Thus, it will be seen that the two components of the binder-device are in 'terlocked with each other.
In use, it is merely necessary to slide the outer component out of interlocking engagement with the other component, whereupon the leaves may be removed or renewed. The provision of the described posts and interlocking elements permits the tearing out or removal of single leaves Without interfering with the binding of the remaining leaves.
My inventive-concept is to be distin guished from structures, of a more or less similar character, which utilize pressure to hold the sheets 'or leaves in position, or which employ stubs and the like. In my structure, the clips do notbear with any appreciable pressure on the sheets, but these are held in place by the posts; and, being not clamped tight, any one or more of them maybe removed from the binder-device without adjusting its component parts and,
also, without disturbing the remaining connection with the embodiment herein illustrated, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the precise form of this disclosure, as many changes in the struc ture and arrangement of the parts are with in the principles of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A binder comprising coacting jaw-components, one of which includes a body-portion and an angle portion bent upon itself to constitute a clip, the other aW-component likewise including a body-portion and an angle portion bent upon itself and constituting a clip, the two clips having an interlocking engagement and being slidable one upon angle portion bent upon itself and constituting a clip, the two clips having an interlocking engagement and being slidable one upon the other, and coacting means on these components for holding aplurality of leaves and including posts outstanding from the surface of a portion of one of the components and registering in a groove in a section of the other component.
3, A binder comprising a cover-member and coacting binder-components thereon, one
said binder-components including a bodyportion and an angle portion bent upon it; self to constitute a clip and the other bindercomponent likewise including a body-portion andan angle portion bent upon itself and constituting a clip, the two clips having an interlocking engagement andbeing slidable one upon the other, and coactinv means on these components for holding a plurality of leaves.
at. A loose-leaf binder comprising a pair of coacting components each of which is substantially L-shaped in' transverse section and has a portion of one of its legs. bent back upon itself to provide an engaging clip,
the two clips having an interlocking engage-
