particularly to boilers, and has for its object the provision of a novel boiler designed for domestic use forheating Vwater for bathing ory other purposes, or for boiling clothes.
An importantobject is'the provision of a boiler which is so constructed and arranged as to utilize practically any kind of fuel eithersolid, liquid or gaseous, the device being however provided with a grate whereby charcoal may be burn'edwith ease,

The invention further' contemplates the improvement ofv devices of this general class not only in the details of construction and arrangement but also in the combination of parts whereby maximum efiiciency will be attained.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to use and operate, positive in action, efficient and durable inservice, and a general improvement in the art.

Referring more particularly t0 the drawings, we have shown our device as comprising a base member designated broadly by the numeral 10, which base member is preferably formed as a cylindrical shell 11 hav- Ving supporting legs or .feet 12 and provided at its top with an inwardly extending flange:
13 crimped or otherwise formed at its juncture with the wall of the cylindrical shell to deiine what may be termed the bead 14.
The numeral 15 designates the boiler which is likewise cylindrical in shape and preferably of the same diameter as the base.
This boiler includes a side wall or shell 1Gr and a bottoni member 17 which rest-s upon the flange 13. At the juncture of the bottoni and the shell is a bead 1S which fits within -is suitably secured to the bottom 17 of the boiler as shown and which has its lower end vextending downwardly below this, bottom member-17 but terminating above the lower portion of the base. Surrounding the .flue is a shell member 21 which is likewise secured to the bottom 17 and which is formed throughout its area with a. plurality offperforations 22 permitting the passage Aof hot water therethrough.
The shell member 21 terminates slightly below the upper edge of the boiler shell`16 while the tlue member 20 extends considerably above such edge as clearly indicated in Figure 2. ln order that thc top of the flue might be closed, we make use of a cylindrical cover member 23 which is `formed with a circular series of holes 24. Pivoted or rotatably mounted by a pivot pin 25 on the top of the cover 23 is a disk 26 equipped with a controlihandle 27 and formed with a circular series of holes 28 adapted to be brought more or less into registration with the holes 24 for controlling the draught through the flue. The top of the boiler 15 itself is adapted to be closed by means of an annular and having an outstanding bead 31 feeding upon the upper edge of the boiler shell for preventing the cover from slipping too far Yfrusto-conical cover 29 having a depending 'flange 3() telescoping within the boiler shell inwardly. This cover member 29 is obviously so constructed that it will have a central hole of sutlicient size to engage upon the outside of the tine member and make a com paratively tight joint.
lVhile it is quite true that any desired heating means might be provided within the flue, we have shown a grate fo ined as disk having a series ot holes 2li-3 therethrough permitting the passage ot air. 'lhis grate is pivotally mounted within the i'lue by iiieans of trunnions or pins -tand is adapted to serve as a siipport tor charcoal7 coke or other solid fuel. To etect filling of the boiler wit-h water, it is necessary to remove he cover Q9 but in order that the water may be easily with drawn `tor use after it is heated, we make use of a drain cock 47 mounted on the. boiler' at the lower portion thereot.
In the operation, heat is applied within the flue 2O and in actual practice, as inentioned above7 charcoal. coke or the like may be utilized as, a fuel. This 'l'iiel is placed upon the diskdike grate and is ignited by any suitable means and it is evident that the heat generated will etliciently operate tolieat the water within the boiler. llot water may be withdrawn Vtroni the faucet or cock 1T at any time. In case the device is used in the laundry for boiling` clothes, it is evident that the perforated shell nien'iber Qt will prevent the clothes from coming in Contact with the wall of the line and becoming scorched thereby.
From the foregoing deseiiption and a study ot the drawings it will be apparent that we have thus provided a simply constructed, inexpensive and very efficient device tor the purpose speeitied which will be a great time and labor saver, especially in communities where gas aid electricity are not available.
