citizen'of the United States, residing at Tulsa, in the county of Tulsaiand State of 5 Oklahoma, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in a Pumping Jack, Ofwhich the following is a Specification.
This invention relates to improvements'in pumping jacks. i
The primary objectof this invention is the provision of a pumping jack structure, preferably to be used for pumping in connection with oil wells, and including a novel structure by means of which the polish rodmay have a true reciprocatory movement, in a straight line, during the pumping operation. 7 i
A further object of this invention is the provision of Jan improved pumping jack, by means ofwhich-agreater pumping stroke is obtained than is possible with conventional pumping jacks, so that a. greater fluid yield is obtained, with, a substantial saving in power, and reduction inoperating expense.
f A further object of this invention is the provision of a novel pumping ack construction, which is relatively simple in operation, and which is operated to give a true 30 vertical recipocatory movement to the polish rod, thus eliminating much of the wear and tear on the rod, stuffing box, and stuffing box rings, occasioned by conventional pumping jacks, and decreasing the loss of oil from leaking stuffing boxes and the like.
Other objects and advantages of thisinvention will :be apparent'during the course of the following detailed description.

To one side of the pitman E the main beam D. has pivotal connection with the polish rod F V of the pumping equipment G, and at the opposite sideof the pitman E the beam D has pivotal connection with the frame B, by means of a connecting rod structure H and extension K fixedly connected with the frame B. Improved means L is provided .for guid ing the beam D as itfisrocked, to insure a'straightline pumping action o-f the polish 7 rod F, ordinarily in a vertical direction. I,
Referring to the triangular rockerframe B, the same, in reality is theconventional type of pumping jack used for oil pumping purposes, such as the Oklahoma pattern oil well pumping jack. It comprisesthe bottom brace or beam 10; upright brace 11;,and diagonalbrace 12, which are rigi'dly connected, and may be formed in any approved manner, to provide the triangular jack frame B, as shown. Intermediate its ends the bottom brace 10 is rockably supported, having a saddle piece 14 pivotally-mounted upon a bearing plate 15; the latter being supported upon spaced parallel planks 17, mounted on the platform C. AS in 'well known construction the upright brace 11 at its upper endris preferably provided with a stirrup box'lS, to which thestirrup 19 is attached, so that the power line or cable 20 maybe connected with thestirrup 19. 'The pitman E has a pivotal rest upon a block or plate 21 atthe outer end of the bottom brace 10, opposite the pivot mounting of the-frame with respect to the upright brace 11.
The main pumping beam D preferably comprises a pair of spaced parallel channels 25 and 26, which at their forward. ends are connected by bolts 27. At the forward or outer en'd'of the beam D the polish rod F has a pivotal connection, of any approved character, such as the provision of bearing extensions 30 rigid with the polish rod F, resting on bearing blocks 31 carried by the beam sections 25 and 26. The polish rod F thus has a fixed pivot axis connection with the beam D. Intermediate its ends, and closer adjacent the polish rod connected end thereofthan the opposite" end, the beam'D has connection with. the pitman. E, as at 33;
At its end opposite the end to which the polish rod is connected, the beam D is connected to the pumping jack frame B by means of the connecting rod structuref H and extension K. The extension K prefer ably comprises a pair of channel sections 35 and36, securely bolted, as at 37 at opposite sides of the bottom brace 10 of the frame B,so as to extend outwardly from the upright brace 11, at right angles thereto, and at the opposite side of said upright brace r 11 withrespect to the pivot mounting of the frame B. The parallel extension sections 35 and 36 at their outer ends are provided with a-cross bolt or member 39, which pivotally supports the sections 40 and 41 forming the connecting. rod extension structure H. At their upper ends the connecting rod sections'40 andtl have pivotal connection with the sections 25 and 26 of the main beam A, by means of a bolt 43 transversely arranged through the beam sections 25 and 26.

this end, it is preferred" to provide arcuate guidemembers5O and 51, ofany approved thereof, laterally of the beam sections 25.

During this upstroke of the polish rod F, the beam Dis accurately. guid ed by means of its connection with the guide members 50 and 51, so that the axis of con; nection of the polish rod F and beam D moves in a'straight line, preferably vertical, and in direct alignment with the vertical stroke of the polish rod F. .l/Vhen the forward end of the main beam D is at its extreme upper position, the rear. end ofsaid beam, rests in the slots 52 and 53, at the I lower ends of the saidslots, as is illustrated by the dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawings. When the power application is released, the weight of the pumping equipment G pulls the beam D downwardly. The connecting rod structure H operates to elevate the rear end of beam'D when the other end is lowered. Thus, both ends of the beam D are free, and move in opposite'directions, creating a longer stroke than is possible with the old style of pumping jack, and at the 2 same time the polish rod is maintained in perfect alignment; the pull being always directly in line with the pumping polish rod F, and no lateral tendency is exertedon the polish rod, due to the force applied by the pumping jack- Merely by detachment of the bolt means 61 the lower ends of the braces 59 and 60 I may be released from the base C to permit the end-wise movementof the standards54 and '55 upon their supporting bolts of the base C, whereby the main jack beam D may be folded back to clear the well casing from obstruction during removal of polish rods, sucker rods, tubing, or the like.
