Description

' E.C.COURNEY PASTE TUBE CAP Filed June 20, 1925 i\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ mun-ml I INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 23, 1926.
near. o. COURNEY, or oA iLAn'n, cnnrronmn PASTE-TUBE 6A1.
Application filed June20, 1925. Serial No, 38,536.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, EARn C. COURNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State iof California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paste-Tube Caps, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to paste tube caps and has for its primary object a means for severing the paste dispensed from the tube when the'cap is disposed to a closed position.
A further object is to provide a tube-cap that may be formed integral (with the tube and thereby preventthe loss of said cap.
A still further object is to provide a tube cap that can be manipulated with one hand in an expeditious manner.
The nature and advantages of the inven-- tion will be better understood when the' following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the invention residing inthe construction,
combination and arrangement of parts asclaimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a paste tube showing the cap forming the subject matter of the present invention associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the cap and tube.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view to illustrate the parts of the novel cap and its association with the tube.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken online. 4-4 of Figure 3-.
Figure 5 is a sectional view showing the cap arranged in closed position and the manner in which r it can be associated with a hook or other supporting means when the tube which is equipped with the novel cap is not in use.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure :7 is a modified form showing a means for threadedl securing the cap to a tube having the-usu'a screw threaded top.
Referring to the drawings in-gdetail the mg 6 when the cap is moved to. open or reference-numeral 1 indicates a paste tube of the usual construction with the exception of the'outlet end or top 2 which as shown in Figures 1 and 6 forms an integral part of the tube and a portion of the invention to be now described. The top 2 of the tube in the preferredform of the invention hasextending laterally therefrom oppositelydisposed ribs 3 which are mounted in grooves 4 formed in the inner side walls of the body portion 5 of the cap. The body portion 5 is somewhat elongated in formation and has an opening 6 formed therein to provide a means of exit for the contents of the tube 1 the top 2 being likewise provided with an opening 7 adapted to register with the open operative position. The top wall 8 which terminates approximately midway the ends of the body portion of the cap has itsinner meansan'd which is put in operation when the cap is being arranged to a closed position as suggestedin Flgure 5 of the draw-. ings. .The under-surface of the top wall 6 is provided with a recess 10 to receive a cork washer 11 so as to form a substantially leak proof connection between the top 2 and the ody portion 5 when the latter is closed. 1
edge 9 inclined so as to provide a cutting A slightly modified'form of the inventidn of the tube, and by this structure the cap may be associated with tubes now commerof my invention will be readily apparent. I desireit to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and 'in the combination and arrangementof the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
WhatI claim is: A tube cap of is shown in Figure 7 and the member 2"of c the cap is threadedly secured to the neck the character described it comprising a body portion having grooved side walls and an opening formed ther'ein, recess to provide a leak proof connection a top for the body port-ionhaving its underbetween the body portion and tube top when side recessed and its inner edge inclined to the former is arranged to closed position. 10
provide a, cutting edge, ribs formed on the In testimony whereof I affix my signatube top and being received in the 'grooves ture.
whereby the body portion is slidably mounted thereon, and a washer arranged in' the EARL C. (JOURNEY.
