Be it known that I, lsaaniJ Kun'r'r. a citiren of the United States, and vresident of New York, in 4the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improven'ients in Fountain- Pen Clips of which the following is a specilication. l

This invention relates to a clip structure for fountain pens and the like and -to means for retaining such clips in operative posit-ion.

TWhile this :invention may be applied to articles other than fountainpens. it will be described herein as' intended for use upon a fountain pen cap, and with this in mind it may be stated that an object of the invention is to provide a clip which is of simple and strong construction and which may be attached to the cap of a fountain pen, or the equivalent, in a manner which adds no appreciable cost to the cap and yet provides for an unusually irm and substantial means of attachment. .v

A more detailed object is to provide a` clip which vis formed from sheet metal having portions of itself bent so as to provide tangs adapted to project inwardly through. open ings provided in the pen cap, said tangs being shaped to provide enlarged -heads at their inner ends and to provide a locking member adapted to be inserted within the cap having a slot to receive said tangs and presenting shoulder portions for engaging said heads to thereby hold the clip against detachment.

A further detailed object is to so shape the tangs and their associated parts as to prevent any appreciable lateral movement of the clip when the locking member is in place.

Other objects and aims of the invention, more or less specific than ,those referred to above, will be in .part obvious and in part pointed out in. thecourse of the following description of the elements, combinations, arrangements of partsand applications of principles constituting the invention, .and the scope of protection contemplatedfwil-l be indicated infthe appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In a pen clip structure, the combination with a pen cap or the like, of a clip member having a body portion arranged to lie fiat against the outer surface of said cap having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior ofv the cap through an aperture provided in the wall of the cap, said attaching portion beingshaped to provide a tapered groove doveta-iled in cross section, and a locking member within the capv having a tapered tongue also dove-tailed in cross section adapted to wedge into said groove for holding the clip in position.

In a pen clip structure, the combination with a pen cap or the like, of a clip member having a body portion arranged to lie Hat against. the outer surface of said cap having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior of the cap through an aperture provided in the wall of the cap, said attachingportion comprising a pair of flanges projecting from opposite sides of the body portion and bent so as to incline toward each other and to thereby provide a dove-tailed groove between them, and a locking member within the cap having a tongue adapted to enter said groove for holding the clip in position.

In a pen clip structure, the coin/binalion with a pen cap or the like, of a clip member having the body portion arranged to lie flat against the outer surface of said cap, having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior of the cap through an aperture provided in the wall of the cap, said attaching portion comprising a pair of ears each having an opening therethrough, and a locking member Within the cap having a tongue adapted to enter said openings for thereby holding the clip in position.

4 In a pen clip structure, the combination with a pen cap or the like, of a clip member having the body portion arranged to lie flat against the outer surface of said cap, having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior of the cap through an aperture provided in the wall of the cap, said attaching portion comprising a pair of ears each having an opening therethrough, said ears and the openings thereof being arranged so that said openings are aligned longitudinallyk of the cap, and a locking member within the cap having a ltongue adapted to enter said openings for thereby holding the clip in position. L

In a pen clip structure, the combination with a pen cap or the-like, of a clip member having a body portion arranged to lie flat against the outer surface of said cap, having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior of the cap through an aperture provided in the wall ofH the cap, said attaching portion comprising an ear bent downwardly from the body portion on a line of bend transverse to the' length of the cap, and said ear having its opposite edge surface portions shaped to provide outwardly facing shoulders thereon, and a locking member engaging said shoulders to retain the attaching portion against movement outwardly through the opening of the cap.'

6. In a pen clip structure, the combination with a pen cap or the like, of a clip member having a body portion arranged to lie flat against the outer surface of said cap, having an attaching portion projecting therefrom into the interior of the cap through an aperture provided in the wall of the cap, said attaching portion comprising an ear bent downwardly from the body portion on a line of bend transverse to the length of the cap, having an opening formed therethrough, and a locking member within the cap having a tongue adapted to enter said opening for thereby holding the clip in position.
