UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER GAG-NON, OI BIDDEFOBD, MAINE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD '10 JAMES A. ANDREWS DONE-THIRD TO JOHN W. HERBERT, BOTH F BIDDEFORD, MAINE.
PICKEB.
Applicatipn filed August 6, 1925. Serial No. 48,480.
' To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, ALEXANDRE GAGNON,-8. citizen of the United States, residing at Biddeford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Pickers, of which the follow in is a specification.
his invention relates tocertain new and useful improvements in picker sticks and the primary object thereof is 'to provide improved means for securing the picker head to the stick.
A further object of the invention is to provide securin means for the picker head which is of simple and economical construction; which enables the picker head to be easily and quickly secured to the stick and which effectively secures the picker head so as to practically make it impossible to remove the same without destroying the head.
The invention still further aims toflpro- I vide securing means which eliminates the use of screws, bolts or similar fastenings.
In the drawings z- Fi ure 1 is a vertical sectional view showie invention applied in position;
in t
digure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1 an v Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the locking plate.
I In proceeding in accordance with the present invention the picker head 1 is of usual construction, being made of leather, or other material, having a thickened shuttle-impact face 2. The invention resides in the rovision of a metal plate 3 which ma be slightly curved as shown in Fig. 3, an which has out-turned ends 4:, the within the wedge-shape socket of the picker 40 head and with the ends 4 thereof engaged with the top and bottom of the head. The plate 3 it will be noted is engaged against the rear side of the im act face 2, and has a hole 5 which alines with the shuttle point.
. The plate is formed of spring metal and with a series of transverse saw-teeth 6.
late being disposed In assembly, the plate is positioned in the .picker head in turn will be held against movement by the ends of the plate engaging the top and bottom of the head.
-Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r 1. In combination with a picker head having a socket, a plate in the socket having a serrated face formed to engege the front side of a picker stick, said plate having its ends bentalong transverse lines and extending outwardly of the front face of the stick and engaged with the top and bottom ends of the head, said plate having an opening therethrough formed to register with the impact point of the shuttle.
2. In combination with a picker head having a socket, a plate in the socket having a serrated face formed to engage the picker stick,said plate having its ends bent along transverse lines and extending outwardly of the stick and engaged with the top and bottom ends of the head. 1
3. In combination with a picker head having a socket, a plate in the socket having a serrated face formed to engage the front side of a picker stick, said plate having its ends bent along transverse lines and extending outwardly of the front face of the stick and Engaged with the top and bottom ends of the ead.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification ALEXANDRE GAGNON.
