JOSEPH HALDA, 0F PURCELL, KANSAS.
ROAD-GRADER ATTACHMENT.
Application filed June 18, 1924. Serial No. 720,855.
of the invention being to provide an extension for the grader blade for leveling the matter dug up by said blade.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for adjusting the device and for increasing and decreasing its length and height. e This invention also consists. in certain other. features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several' v parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and. specifically pointed out in the appended" claim. v
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views,'and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a grader show ing my invention in use.
Figure 2 is a partial plan view of the improved grader.
Figure 3 is arear view of the blade.
Figure 4'is a similar view withthe hinged parts folded.- I
Figure 5 is a transverse section through Fi ure 4. s shown in these views, I provide a blade 1 which is reinforced on its outer face by the T-bearn 2 which is bolted to the blade as shown: The inner end of this blade is connected by the straps 3 with the rear end 'of the grader blade 4 ofthe grading machine which is shown at A. A beam 5 has one end connected with the reinforcing beam and its other end is pivoted to the rear end; of a beam 6 which is fastened to a part of the frame of the grader. This'beam 6 is braced by the bar 7. A rocking member 8 is suitably secured to a part of the grader and this member is connected by the link 9 with the beam 2 so that when the member v upwardly isrocked the extension blade will be moved inrelation to the ground. The member 8 is adjusted by a hand lever 10 which is arranged where it can be seized by a personstanding on the platform of the grader. The blade 1 has an extension 11 hingedly connected thereto, as shown at 12, so that the blade can be made of different lengths. This extension 11 has a standard 13 connected thereto to the upper end of which a cable '14 is attached, this cable passing to a point on the grader where it can be pulled bythe operator so as to raise the extension.
The blade 1 also has a strip 15 hinged to its upper edge, as shown at 16, so that this strip can be swung down in rear of the blade when not in use or it can be swung when the height of the extension blade is to be increased.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I can be used for digging a ditch at the side of a road and the dirt thrown up by the grader blade will be leveled over the road by the attachment so that it is not necessary for the grader to make several trips in. order to level the dirt thrown out of the ditch. As will be seen the attachment can be made higher and longer when desired.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
i I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction. and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim. I
.What I claim is j A device of the character described including a scraper blade, supporting means for 'said blades, port-whereby to raise and lower said blade and a longitudinal strip hingedly connected to the upper edge of said blade and adapted tobe inoperatively disposed against the means carriedby the sup I outer face 'of the blade and adapted to be moved to restupon the upper edge of the blade for increasing the hei ht of the same.
Iii-testimony whereof I a x my signature JOSEPH HALDA.
