F. W. GR!FF|N HANDLE Filed Jan. 26, 1924 Patented Feb. 9, 1926.-
UNITED STATES PATENTv OFFICE.
FRANK WILBAR GRIFFIN, OF GALESBURG, ILLINOIS.
HANDLE.
Application filed January 26, 1924. Serial No. 688,741.
especially designed for carrying packages and articles.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a handle of the detachable type which may be readily and easily secured to the cord, straps or the like, usually employed for securing the package, thereby providing a package or article that may be readily and easily carried.
Another important object of the invention is to provide means for looking the handle against displacement, when the same has been applied to a package for carrying puroses.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that Referring to the drawing in detail, the
handle is indicated at 5 and is formed with right angled end portions 6 having enlargements 7 at the free ends thereof, the enlargements being formedwith inwardly extended portions 8 slotted as at- 9 to receive.
straps which may pass around the package to be carried.
The wall 10 of each depressed portion provides a stop for the pivoted keeper associated therewith, sothat the strain directed to the handle will not operate to move the keepers to cause the handle to become disconnected.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that by attaching a handle constructed in accordance with the invention, a package may be readily and easily carried, with the minimum amount of exertion on the part of the person carrying the same.
I claim e A removable handle including right angled end portions formed with enlargements, one surface of each enlargement being cut away, each enlargement having a cut out portion extending from one edge thereof, defining a hook, a stop adjacentto the outer edge of each enlargement, a pivoted keeper embodying a length of sheet metal bent upwardly to provide a finger grip, said pivoted keepers being mounted within the cut away portions of the enlargements to close the hook members, and said keepers adapted to engage the stops to restrict movement thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
FRANK WILBAR GRIFFIN.
