Be it known that ALvA M. Birnen, a citizen of the United States oi' America, residing at Queens, in the county of Upshur and State of West Virginia, has invented new and useful Improvements in Garment Hang ers, of which the following is a specication. The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient garment hanger and stretcher particularly adapted for coats and trousers whereby the shape oi the same may be preserved and the crease in trousers restored, the device being of such a construction as to permit of folding into compact form for storage in a trunk, grip, or valise; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The device consists essentiallyT of a stem 10 having a cross bar 11 to the extremities of which are pivotally connected side bars 12 which .in commonwith the cross bar carry clasps 13 for engagement with the garment, such as a pair of trousers located between the bars in position to be stretched transversely by outward movement of the side bars incident to the tension of a spring 14 connecting the upper ends of the side bars above the cross bar 11. The stem 10 isy provided with a supporting hook 15 and at an intermediate point is bowed laterally to form a loop 16, and with this loop are engaged the inner ends of shoulder arms 17 each of which 40 is of looped construction with the extremities provided with hook members 18 for interlocking engagement with the upper and lower sides of the loop 16, so that said arms may be supported in the transversely eX- tending position indicated in Figure 1. To secure the extremities of the loop sides forming the shoulder arms in engagement with the loop of the stem there is employed a movable ring 19 adapted to occupy a posi- 50 tion in oblique intersection with the loop 16 to lock the inner ends of the shoulder arms in their proper relations thereto. Obviously' in order to fold the support the ring may be disengaged from the loop 16 and permitted 55 to drop whereupon the hooked extremities of the shoulder arms may be disengaged trom the loop 16.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A garment hanger comprising a stem formed from wire and provided at a point between its ends with a loop extending beyond one side of the stem and merging into a hump disposed at the opposite side oi 65 the stem, shoulder arms having hooked ends adapted to engage in said loop, and a ring mounted upon the stem and adapted .to enn gage over the end portions of the loop and the hump and receivek the inner end portions 7U of the arms, whereby the arms are loosely connected with the stem.
