To all whom t may concer/lt:

Be it known that I, FERNANDO SnvrnAL BERNAB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malaski, Pangasinan, Philippine Islands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Canes and Guns, of which the following is a specication.

The present invention appertains to a combination cane and gun and has for its principal object to provide a' device of this nature possessing a very simple and efficient construction, one which is easy to handle and manipulate, reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

lith the above and other objects in View as will appearas the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the outer casing is formed in sections 1, 2 and 3. The section 1 has fixed thereto a handle 4. All of the sections 1, 2 and 3 are of hollow tubular construction. A cylinder or tube 5 is situated in sections 1 and 2 and another tube 6 is situated with- Serial No. 30,016.

in tube 5. The section 1 and tubes 5 and 6 are held together by a transversely extending screw 7. A barrel 8 is slidably mounted in tube 6.v This barrel is provided with a bayonet slot 9 including the slot proper 10 and offset notch 11. An opening l2 is provided in the barrel 8 for the insertion of a cartridge and a rib 13 provided inside of the barrel adjacent the opening 9 for engaging the flange as is indicated at 14 of an ordinary cartridge 16. This barrel 8 extends into section 3 and is fixed thereto in any suitable manner. A hammer housing 16 is mounted within the barrel 8 and the enlargement 17 thereof extends through the bayonet slot and is fixed to the tube 6 by screws 18. When the device is assembled as shown in Figure 2 it is necessary to rotate section 3 and barrel 8 so as to move the notch 11 out of engagement with the enlargement 17, thus placing it in registry with the slot proper 10 in order that the barrel may be moved so that the opening -12 is accessible for inserting a cartridge, the extended position being shown to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawings. An extension 2O is provided on theforward end of the hammer housing 16 for engaging the cartridge 15 to hold its flange in engagement with the rib 13. A hammer 21 is slidably mounted within the housing 16 and is provided with an elongated sh ank 22 having a head 23 at its end. A spring 24 is mounted on the shank between the restricted end 25 of the housing and the enlargement 26 on the hammer 21 and tends to force the hammer 21 in engagement with the cap of the cartridge 15 when said hammer is released.

The trigger mechanism consists of a block 26 disposed within the barrel 8 at the end adjacent the handle 4 being fixed therein by screw 27. The forward end of this block is provided with a recess 2S for receiving the head 23 and a catch 29 is pivoted on the block the hooked end 30 thereof being adapted to engage the head 23. A spring holds the hooked end 30 normally in engagement with the head 23 or so as to engage it as will be more fully explained hereinafter. A trigger 31 is slidable through section 1 and tubes 5 and to engage the end of the catch 29 so that by pressing in upon the trigger the hooked end thereof may be disengaged from the hammer head 23 so that the hammer may move quickly iii 1 however,

As the barrel is being moved inwardly vof Vthe tube 6 it will be noted that the catchy 29 will cock the hammer 22ibecause when vthe barrel hasbeen moved to itsextended or outwardly disposed position the catch is `brought into engagement with the-head 23 ofthe hammer.

It is `thought that the construction and operation `of the' invention will now be vClearly understood without any more detailed description thereof. lIt is desired, to point out `that numerous changes in the details'o construction, and
