FLOWER BASKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JosnPH V. HARPER, a citizen of the United States, "residing at Washington, in the county of Beaufort and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flower Baskets, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a receptacle generally, and more articularly to a flower basket which may be hungfrom a support or rested on a support by means ofa base member. The base member is removable to expose a peg, which may be forced in'the ground for holding the basket as a vase for holding flowers and the like, on she ground," such as are used in gravear s.

y An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above nature, which is exceedingly simple in structure, attractive in its appearance, inexpensive to manufacture, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement'of arts, as will be hereinafter more fully descrlbed and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 5 designates an inverted conical shaped. container, which is provided at its open end with handles 6. A pair of strips 7 are bent over upon themselves intermediate their ends and have their extremities fixed to the container 5. Of each strip 7, the upper extremity is fixed to the contalner at the top and the other extremity to the intermediate portion of the container. These strips form armsand the ends of the arms are curved v downwardly, terminating in tapered portions indicated specifically at 8. The apex of the container 5 has a peg 9- projecting therefrom in axial alignment with 'the container. A base block 10 is adapted to receive this peg, as is clearly shown in Figure 1, and there is frictional engagement between the peg ano the base block.

bent'over upon the extremity for forming pockets that receive the tapered terminals of the arms 7, so that a binding engagement may be had between the terminals of the arms and the extremities of the bail. When the parts are assembled as shown in Figure 1, it will be seen that the container may be hung from, a suitable support, by means of the bail 11 and function as a flower basket. If it is desirable to use the device as a vase, the handle bail 11 may be easily disengaged from the arms 7 and the resultant structure will'be similar to the ordinary vase and may be placed on a shelf or any other suitable support because of the base block -10. If it is desirable to mount the vase on the ground, then it would be preferable to remove the base block, so that the peg 9 could be stuck in the ground. The arms 7 are so formed as to be ornamental when the bail is not used.

From the above detailed description, it will be seen that I have devised a flower basket or like container which is exceedingly simple in its construction and presents an attractive appearance. The device is strong, and durable, but may be placed on the market at a relatively low cost.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed merely by way of example, in order to show an attainment of the objects and advantages enumerated.

It is apparent that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificingany of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A device of the class described including a container, a pair of strips each being bent upon itself and having one extremity attached to the upper portion of the container, and the otherextremity attached to the intermediate portion of the container, so as to form an arm with the outer end or intermediate portion of the strip bent down wardly, and an inverted U-shaped bail having sockets on its extremities for receiving the ends of the arms.

2. A device of the class described including a container, a pair of strips each bent upon itself and having one extremity attached to the upper portion of the container, a and the other extremity attached to the intermediate portion of the container, so as to form an arm with the outer end or intermedlate portion of the strip bent downwardly, and an inverted U-shaped bail hav- OSEPH V.
