Be it known that ALBERT SCHWANZ, a citizen of the Republicvol` Germany, residing vat St. Louis, State of Missouri, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Punch-Centering Machines, of which the following' is a specification.l n
The object of my,` deviceis to make a punch centering machine to be used particuw larly for locating exact centers for varying machine operations. A furtherobject 'is to make a device that will exactly locate andy punch the center of rods and bars of cross sections of different geometricalshapes.- 1A further object of my device is to devise a machine for the locatingl and drawing et' llend themselves readily to multiple production, that may be easily assembled and taken apart, and that can be for these reasons r cheaply and etliciently made.

It will be seen that since the scale 54 has its zero graduation at the apex of the rectangular cavity 13, and that since the vsurface now to be measured does not come to that point, that the center of the circular section could not be obtained by dividing the distance by two, as was done in the case of the square section. In order to find the center, therefore, it becomes necessary to read the-distance on the scale v54 to the outer periphery of the circular rod,
and then to subtract the distance between the other and oppositesurface of the" rod and the zero on the scale 54, and then dividing this distance by two.
This radial distance may thenbe located on the rule 50 in the same manner that it was previously located.

Another example of the use of my device is for the following work. Assume we have a rectangular bar of metal two 'feet in length and three inches vwide and of any thickness. It is desired thatV holes be drilled four inches apart and in the center of the width. In order to make the subsequent` center punch marks when the device islin the adjusted position just indicated, the device need only be moved to the right so that the point of the'marking rod 25 will be in the second hole and the T square positioned.
By striking the center punch 42 the thirdV center punch mark will be made. This may be` continued for each subsequent marking.' This latter method can, of course, not be used for distances greater than permitted bythe length of the extension member 21, nor
for distances less than half the Width of the U shaped member 28.v
When the distance between the punch-'H-A V 'y lmarks varies, the extension member-21 cannot be used. In that event, the former methoddescribed must be continued.
