Description

Dec 15, 1925. O. T. HOBERG LOWERING DEVICE Filed Feb, 9. 1923 ATTORNEY Y wn-nsss:
Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
UNITED STATES OSCAR T. HOBERG, OF MCKEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
LOWERING DEVICE.
Application filed February 9, 1923. Serial No. 618,091.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, OSCAR T. Homme, a citizen of the United States, residing at McKeespoi-t, in the county of Allegheny and 1' State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lowering Devices, of which the following is a specifica- Jfion.
This invention contemplates the provision l" of a device for removing articles from overhead shelves, and embodies amongst other featuresl a pole supporting a basket adjacent one end, and a vertical movable rod offset at one end above the basket, and which rod is utilized to engage the article to be removed, -forcing the article from the shelf into the basket.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed. l
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing the rod in elevated position.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
if Figure l is a top plan view.
The device forming the subject matter of the invention essentially embodies a pole 10 of any vsuitable material and length, the pole having associated therewith a basket 1'4 11 which is arranged adjacent one end of the pole. The basket is preferably constructed of wire, and is associated with the pole by means of brackets or wire elements 13. Also supported upon the pole 10 is a rod 1411-, the latter being arranged parallel with the pole and terminating at one end to provide an offset portion 15, the end of which is downturned as at 16. This rod is mounted to move longitudinally of the pole through U suitable guide eyes 17, the offset portion 15 being arranged above the basket, and movable toward and away in a manner and for a purpose to be presently described. The lower end of the rod 14 is pivotally connected with the angularly disposed branch 18 of the lever 19, the latter being-'fulcrumed the lever to normal position when released? Also carried by the upper end of the pole is a hook like element 23 by means of which the entire device can be suspended from a shelf or other suitable support when not in use, and which may also be utilized to move small articles from the shelves in such instances where the use of the basket and the rod 14 can be dispensed with. The device is very simple in construction and can be handled in a very convenient manner for the purpose indicated.
Vhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a pole, a basket supported thereon at a point adjacent the upper end thereof, a rod mounted for longitudinal movement on the pole and including a right angularly disposed upper end portion arranged above the basket and projecting beyond the outer side thereof, the free end of said angular portion being down turned, a bracket secured to the pole adjacent the lower end thereof, a bell crank lever pivoted on said bracket and having one end connected with the adjacent end of the rod, whereby the latter is elevated when the lever is'depressed, and resilient means interposed between the pole and the lever to automatically return the latter to normal position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
OSCAR T. HOBERG.
