PATENT OFFICE.
ALVA M. PHILLIPS, OF BYESVILLE, OHIO.
ICE-CREAlYl-CONE SERVER.
Application filed June 11, 1925.
17 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, ALVA M. PHILLIPS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Byesville, in the county of Guernsey and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream- Cone Servers, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to a highly novel device for receiving and supporting ice cream cones so that the latter may be disposed more readily and easily than by the method now in use, the present server being further of such construction as to further permit of sanitation.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an ice cream server which includes a tray having ice cream cone receiving and supporting openings arranged therein, a handle being associated with the tray for facilitating the carrying of the same, central means being provided for supporting the tray on a table or the like.
A further object is to provide an ice cream cone server of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the device embodying my invention, and
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved ice cream cone server, the same comprising the substantially rectangular shaped tray 2, which is formed, preferably of wood, and is of a suitable thickness. The tray is provided with a series of spaced openings 3, which are of such size as to accommodate ice cream cones and support the same in such a manner Serial No. 36,480.
formed on one endof the tray and provides a handle for facilitating the carrying of the device from place to place.
The supporting means for the tray comprises a pair of elongated strands of wires 5, which are adapted to be secured on the bottom of the tray, adjacent the longitudinal sideedges thereof, in the manner as will be presenty apparent. Each of the strands of wires has its intermediate portion 6 extending for substantially the full length of the tray, the end portions 7 and 8 of each strand of wire being disposed downwardly and arranged spirally as clearly illustrated in Figure 2. The end portions are then bent laterally as ilustrated at 9 and 10 respectively, so as to provide table engaging legs. The end portions of each strand of wire are thence each bent inwardly and upwardly, as illustrated at 11 and 12 respectively, the upwardly disposed portions 11 and 12 of the end port-ions being substantially straight and disposed within the spiral formed by the downwardly extending portions of the ends of each strand of wire, as is also clearly illustrated in Figure 2.
The free ends 13 and 14 are disposed laterally and are adapted to form suitable eyes through which extend the fastening screws 15, the latter being driven into the bottom of the tray 2, adjacent each of the corners thereof, so that the strands of wire may be fastened to the bottom of the tray. To further insure the rigidity of the fastening of the wires, the intermediate portion of each wire is looped, as illustrated at 16, and a fastening screw 17 extends .therethrough and is driven into the bottom of the tray at the intermediate portions thereof.
An ice cream cone server of the above mentioned character will thus be permitted to rest on a table or other supporting surface, while the ice cream cones are being filled, or during the placing of the cones in the openings 3 provided therefor in this tray. By grasping the handle 4-, the device may be readily lifted and carried from place to place, so that a number of ice cream cones may be served at one time. By placing the cones in the openings in the tray, there will be no necessity for a person to handle the same, while carrying the cones, and thus the device will. promote sanitation. The simplicity with which the present device is constructed, renders the same strong and durable, yet very inexpensive in its manufacture.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that Various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What- I claim is:
1. An ice cream cone server comprising a .tray having a plurality of cone receiving openings arranged therein, a handle therefor, means for supporting the tray comprising a pair of elongated strands of wires, the intermediate portions thereof extending along the bottom of the frame adjacent the respectively longitudinal side edges thereof, the end portions of the strands of wire being bent down rardly, and laterally, and then upwardly, the free ends of each strand of wire being bent laterally and forming loop portions, and fastening screws extending through said loop portions into the bottom of the frame.
2. An ice cream cone server comprising a tray having a plurality of cone receiving openings arranged therein, a handle therefor, means for supporting the tray comprising a pair of elongated strands of wires, the intermediate portions thereof extending along the bottom of the frame adjacent the respectively longitudinal side edges thereof, the end portions of the strands of wire being bent downwardly, and laterally, and then upwardly, the free ends of each strand of Wire being bent laterally and forn'iing loop portions, fastening screws extending through said loop portions into the bottom of the frame, the intermediate portions of the strands of Wire being provided with a loop, and fastening means extending through the last mentioned loop and into said tray.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
ALVA M. PHILLIPS.
