the United States, residing at Glendale, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Dust Cap, of which the following is a specification.,
This invention relates to improvements in dust caps for the valve stems of pneumatic tires and has for its'principal object to provide a simple and eficient'means whereby the cap may be readily moved `out of engagement with the up er end of the usual valve stem to permit t e attachment of an inflatingump to the valve without necessitating t-e 4entire removal ofthe dust cap t from the valve stem.
'A further object of= the inventionis to provide a dust ca of the above mentioned character, wherein means is associated therewith for preventing any' foreign substance from coming in contact with lthe up r end of the valve stem when the cap is in its normal position on the stem.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a dust cap of the abovementioned character, which is of such construction'as tol prevent the accidental di lacement of the dust cap such as frequent occurs when the dust cap. is removed an -the* pneumatic tires of an automobile are being infiated.

When the cap 7 is in'its normal position 4' on the sleeve 1 in the manner shown in the drawing, the ins 5 and 6 on the upper portion of the s eeve 1 will be seated` in the notches 13 formed in the tive ears of the cap whereby the .cap is normally locked inV a closed position 'over the upper end of the valve stem. The rubber cover 14: has its central portion provided with a de- -pression to prevent the air within the pneumatic inner tube from being released when the cap 7 is in position over the upper end of the valve stem.

Having thus described the invention, what we claim is i 1. A dust cap comprising a sleeve threaded at its lower end onthe usual valve stem, laterally extending pins .at diametrically opposite points on the upper portion of the sleeve, a cap member, 'ears on-the lower portion of the cap at diametrically opposite l i points, said earsbeing provided with bayonet slots for cooperation with the aforementioned pins onsaid sleeve to permit the cap to normall cover the upper end of the valve stem, and rther'permit the-outward swingving movementof the cap with j respect to cap to normally cover the upper end of the' valve stem, and further' ermit the outward swinging movement. of t e cap with respect to the s eeve for uncovering the upper end of the valve stem for inflating purposes, and means invsaid cap for engagement with the upper end of. the valve stem when the cap is in its normal position.
