Description

Dec. 8, 1925 1,565,076
B. E. FINK HANDLE BAR GRIP FASTENER Filed Jan-. 14, 1925 ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
BISHOP E. PINK, 0F FOB/I MYERS, FLORIDA.
I'IANDLE*BAR-GRI1? FASTENER.
Application filed January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BISHOP E. FINK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Myers, in the county of Lee and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in I-landle-Bar-Grip Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a fastening means for handle bar grips for bicycles and the like whereby the grips may be securely fastened to the bars and easily applied thereto without the use of glue and the like, and likewise may be easily removed from the bars without injury to the grips or any part thereof.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the sev eral parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, referenee will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken through one hand portion of a pair of handle bars with the grips thereof secured to the bars by the fastening means forming the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation.
Figure 3 is a detail View of the plug forming a part of the invention.
Figure l is a sectional view taken on line -:l-4t of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of the screw receiving integrally formed washer and sleeve.
Referring to the drawings in detail the reference numeral A indicates an end portion of a pair of hollow handle bars within which is inserted a tapered plug 2 provided with a centrally disposed opening 3 to receive a screw at passing through a sleeve 5 integrally formed with a washer 6 as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 5 of the drawings.
The handle bar grip 7 frictionally engages the handle bar A in the usual manner and has its closed end 8 provided with an opening to receive the sleeve 5 of the washer 6. The head of the screw 4 is counter-sunk in the washer as shown and the screw holds the 14, 1925. Serial No. 2,383.
washer in contacting engagement with the end 8 of the handle bar grip, and by having the screw secured within the plug 2 which is forced or driven into the handle bar ends, the grips are securely fastened to the handle bar in a manner whereby they may be expeditiously moved therefrom without injury to the grips or any part of the fastening means securing the grips in operative position.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A fastening means for handle bar grips comprising a plug provided with a centrally disposed opening formed in one end thereof, an integrally formed sleeve and washer, and a screw passing through said sleeve and washer to be received in the opening of the plug for the purpose specified.
2. A fastening means for handle bar grips of the character described comprising a plug provided with a centrally disposed opening at one end thereof and adapted to be received in the ends of the handle bars, a sleeve passing through an opening formed in the end of the handle bar grips, a washer integrally formed with said sleeve, a screw passing through the washer and sleeve and being received in the opening of the plug for securing the grips to the handle bars as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination with a hollow handle bar, and a grip frictionally secured thereto and provided with a closed end, means for further securing said grip to said handle bar and comprising aplug inserted within the handle bar and terminating flush with the end thereof, said plug being provided with a centrally disposed opening in its outer end, said closed end of said grip being provided with a centrally disposed opening, a sleeve passing through the opening of. the closed end of the grip, a washer integrally formed with said sleeve, and a screw counter-sunk in said washer and received in the centrally disposed opening of the plug.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
BISHOP E. FINK.
