LEV/IS LAVELL ELLIS, OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA.
FORM FOR CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed June 16, 1925.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LEWIS L. ELLIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sarasota, in the county of Sarasota and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Forms for Concrete Construction, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in forms for concrete construction and is especially designed for use in constructing hollow Walls for buildings.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a form for this purpose which includes a collapsible core of novel construction and which is capable of being quickly and easily set up for use and quickly and easily removed after the wall has set.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan view showing a portion of a form arranged to provide a wall.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken through one of the plates of the core.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention is shown arranged for constructing a hollow concrete wall. F or this purpose there is provided spaced inner and outer walls 10 which are designed to form the inner and outer faces of the concrete wall and which extend upward from a foundation 11, the latter forming the bottom of the mold.
Arranged within the form are vertically disposed horizontally spaced standards 12, the latter being provided in their lower ends with sockets for the reception of pins 13 which extend upward from the foundation 11. A timber 14 may be secured to the tops of the standards 12, any suitable securing means such as nails being provided for this purpose.
The walls of the core are formed of sepa- Serial No. 87,544.
rate sections or plates 15 which are spaced apart upon opposite sides of the standards 12 so that when the form is filled, inner and outer spaced walls will be provided, the space between the walls being formed by the core. Secured along opposite edges of the plates and spaced inward from said edges are stops or strips 16, the latter being adapted to engage the opposite sides of the standards 12. The length of the plates 15 and the position of the stops 16 are so ar ranged that the said stops will engage every other standard, the engaging faces of the stops being so spaced with respect to the space between every other standard as to cause the plates 15 to bow slightly outward and leave a space between the central portion of the plates and the adjacent edges of the intermediate stops as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. This provides means to permit of the plates 15 being moved inward a sufficient distance after the material has set to permit of their ready removal so that the core may be removed for future use.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is here in reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A form for concrete construction including spaced vertically disposed inner and outer walls, horizontally spaced vertically disposed standards arranged between the walls and plates engaging alternate standards upon opposite sides of the latter, the plates upon one side of the standards being spaced from the standards which are engaged by the opposite plates.
2. A form for concrete construction including spaced vertically disposed inner and outer walls, horizontally spaced vertically disposed standards arranged between the walls and plates engaging alternate standards upon opposite sides of said standards, the plates upon one side of the standards being yieldingly spaced from the standards engaged by the opposite plates.
3. A form for concrete construction including spaced vertically disposed inner and outer walls, horizontally spaced vertically lit!) disposed standards arranged between the walls plates engaging the opposite sides of the standards, stops extending along and spaced from the opposite edges of. the-plates for abutting the opposite edges 01: the standards, the relative distances between. theen: gaging face of the stops and standards being 50 regulated that when the plates are engaged with alternate standards they will be bowed outward to provide a space be tween the intermediate standards and plates.
In. testimony whereof I aflix my sigmture.
LEWIS LAVELL ELLIS.
