To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADoLrrr Sorrnnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Lamps and Lamp Shades, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a combined lamp and shade and the object of the invention is to provide a shade of attractive appearance which will house and support a lamp and which may be readily attached to and sus pended from supporting members of wide variety in positions where a lamp for reading, toilet, or other purposes, may be temporarily required.

This object, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shade embodying my invention showing it in attached position,

Figure 2 an enlarged rear elevation of the shade and its attaching members,

Figure 3 a section on line 3-3 of Figure. 2,

Figure 4 a section on line 44 of Figure 8,

Figure 5 a section similar to that of Figure 3 but showing the attaching members in a different position, and

Figure 6 a perspective view of the attaching members.

The numeral 1 indicates the lamp shade which is made of any suitable material, preferably of semi-transparent flexible material. In the form shown the shade is elliptical in cross section with the walls converging from the base to a flat top. Eyelets 2 are inserted in one of the side walls of the shade, hereinafter called the rear wall. These eyelets are adapted to receive duplicate hangers. The hangers are preferably made of bendable wire bent to form a stem 3 which merges at one end into a curved hook 4t and, at the other end, is bent at substantially a right angle in a direction diametrically opposite to hook 4 then upwardly to form a hook 5. descent lamp 7 and, for this purpose the lamp-socket 8 has a bar 9 fixed thereto, bent at a right angle and fixed to each of the hangers, as indicated at 10. A flexible electrical conduit 11 leads to socket 8. The hangers with the angular bar carrying the lamp socket constitute a supporting rack as indicated in Figure 6.

For use, the rack is placed within the shade and the curved hooks 4 and stem 3 slipped through the eyelets 2, as indicated in Figure 5, until the frame is in the position indicated in Figure 8 with part 6 of the angular hooks in engagement with the wall of the shade as indicated at 12. The lamp is then inserted in the socket and the. combined lamp and shade is ready for use. The curved hooks allow the lamp with its shade to be hung upon a mirror frame, the head of a bed or upon a great variety of other objects where its use may be desired and the lamp is adapted for use above a mirror for shaving or other toilet purposes, for reading in bed or in other positions where a light is temporarily desired. 7

While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of. the character described including a lamp, a lamp shade and a rack the rack consisting of a pair of hangers having hooks to support the shade from without and hooks adapted to support the lamp within the shade, said hooks being connected by an angularly bent bar fixed to the hangers and carrying the lamp socket, the free ends of the hooks being bent inward and upward to engage the wall of the shade.

A device of the character described including a lamp; a pair of members having inner and outer hooks; an angular bar connecting the inner hooks and carrying the lamp; anda shade surrounding the inner hooks, bar and lamp, said outer hooks being taken through the shade for the support of the device exterior-1y of the shade.
