Description
Dec. 1, 1925- S. M DONALD FACIAL DEVICE Filed May 28, 1923 INVENTOR fad. a
A TTORNE Y Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SADIE MACDONALD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FACIAL DEVICE.
Application filed May 28, 1923. Serial No. 641,963.
, T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Snore MACDONALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county of New York, borough of Manhattan, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Facial Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention, relates to facial devices and refers particularly to devices for changing the contour of the face by means of a forced movement of the facial tissues.
The object of my invention is a device designed to raise the cheek tissues and maintain them in raised position, thus counteracting the efiect of falling cheeks and reducing the accumulation of flesh below the chin and upon the forward neck.
In order that a device of this character should have its greatest efficiency, it should be worn continually, as, occasional, or interrupted wear, will have little, if any, lasting efiect, the flesh falling back to its original undesirable position when the device is removed.
It is evident that a device for this purose, if worn continually, must be of such orm and construction that it will be unexposed during use and that it should possess some means whereby it can be continuously hidden without danger of disclosure or exposure.
It must also be light, easily applied, Sim-7.
ple in construction, of such a character as to be applicable to heads of .difierent sizes and its use must be accompanied by a minimum of discomfort.
of these, and other, valuable attributes, as
will be evident upon a consideration of my drawings and specification.
In order that the tabs, or elements, of my device attached to the face, may be com- .pletely hidden from view while in use, I
employ loop means of thread, metal or other suitable material, in conjunction with the the ta s from observance.
The accompanying drawings and the following description will clearly explain the device of my invention, vits method of application and value of use.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating one form of the device of my invention and its method of application, similar parts are designed by similar numerals.
, Figure 1 illustrates one form of the device of my invention in position of application.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device of Figure 1, partly broken away for purposes of clearness of description.
Figure 3 is a cross-section through the line 3-3 of Figure 2. The particular form of the device of my lnvention, shown in the accompanying drawings, comprises two tabs composed of an outer external layer 10 of flexible material to which is attached a layer of adhesive material 11, which, in turn, is attached to an inner exterior protective layer 12. Each tab carries a plurality of externally exposed pinretaining devices 13, 13, which, in the drawings, consist of a series of thread loops.
I prefer to have a plurality of air-vents, or holes, 14, 14 in the external cover 10 of the device but these are not essential.
A metallic ring 15 is carried by each tab. The two tabs are connected by means of a head strap 16, having the hooks 17, 17 capable of placement within the rings 15, 15, with the slide-buckle 18 for purposes of lengthening, or stra .16.
T e application of the device is as folows The protective layers 12, 12 of the tabs are removed, thus exposing the adhesive layers 11, 11. The adhesive surface of each tab is of the cheeks forwardly of the ears until a firm holding contact is prdduced between the tabs and the face. The strap 18 is then placed over the head, the hooks 17', 17 placed within the rings 15, 15-and the strap shortened by means of the slide-buckle 18 until the desired upward tension upon the checks is obtained.
The strap 18 is preferably placed under the hair so'that, when the latter is arranged,
the stra will not show.
In or er that the tabs will not be discernible, the hair is positioned over them, hiding them from view, and held and maintained in shortening, "the head lit this position by inserting hair-pins through the hair and through the pin-retaining elements 13, 13. By this means, the hair may be effectively retained in place in such a manner that it will not be displaced by the wind or by any other ordinary conditions to which it may besubmitted, and hence, the tabs will be constantly hidden from view, thus allowing the use of the device at all times without danger of discovery and without disfiguring the appearance of the wearer.
It will thus be seen that the device of my invention presents a simple, economical and effective means for the raising of the cheek tissues and maintaining them in that position without danger of discovery or discernment.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, arrangement or mate rial of parts as shown and described, as these are given simply as a means tor clearly describing the device of my invention.
lVhat- I claim is:-
l. In a facial device, in combination, a
meagre? pair of tabs each having an adhesive material uponone face and a plurality of loops upon the other face capable of receiving an ordinary hair pin whereby the hair of the wearermay be made to coxcr the tabs and extensible means connecting the two tabs..
2. In a facial device, ,in combination, a pair of tabs each comprising an outer exterior layer, an interior adhesive layer and an inner exterior protective layer,a plurality of loops upon the face of the outer ex mrior layer capable of receiving an ordinary hair pin whereby the hair of the wearer may be made to cover the tabs and extensible means connecting the two tabs.
3. In a facial device, a pair of tabs each having adhesive material upon one face and a loop upon the other face capable of receiving a hair pin whereby the hair of the wearer may be made to cover the tab and tapes for applying tension attached to the tabs.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 25th day of May, l923.
SADIE MACDGNALD.
