Description

Nov. 24, 1925- G. B. BUS H BRUSH HOLDER FOR BOTTLE OAIS Filed Dec. 1. 1923 Patented Nov. 24, 1925 UNITE stares rarer OFFICE.
GEORGE B. BUSH, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO CONTINENTAL SCRIPTEX INK 0Q, 01? PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. V
BRUSH HOLDER FOR BOTTLE CAPS.
Application filed. December To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. BUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Brush Holders for Bottle Caps, of which the following is a specification.
ldy invention relates to brush holders for bottle caps which are adapted for use with bottles containing paste, adhesive and the like, which is difficult to reach after the center portion is used. The objects are to provide a brush holder which will allow a swinging movement of the brush; which will make a seal between the cap and the brush, and which may be easily inserted in the cap.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which willbe described hereinafter, l attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a central section through my improved brush holder showing it applied to a bottle cap and a brush,
Figure 2 a bottom plan view of the brush holder shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 an edge view of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a bottle containing adhesive 2 or other fluid which is to be sealed against the atmosphere when not in use. A. cap 3 of any suitable construction is secured to the neck l of the bottle and is provided with an aperture 5 in its top. A sealing washer 6 is disposed between the edge of the neck and the top of the cap. My improved brush holder 7 is preferably made of rubber and grips a brush 8 within an opening 9. A groove 10 is formed in holder 7 for receiving that part of the cap which surrounds aperture 5. The lower part of the brush holder tapers downwardly and inwardly from a point 11 near the groove to a point 12 of less diameter than the groove. The upper part of the brush holder tapers upwardly and inwardly from a point 13 beyond the groove. The holder being resilient and its lower part tapered to an end of less diameter than groove 10 and aperture 5, facilitates the insertion of the holder into the aperture. The upper 1, 1923. Serial No. 678,031.
part of the holder extending beyond groove 10, insures a positive seal because a large surface engages the top of the cap.
In use the cap is loosened from the neck and the brush moved to engage the paste or adhesive and removed from the bottle together with the cap. The paste may then be applied wherever desired, after which the brush is placed within the bottle and the cap secured to the neck. The large area of the upper part of the brush holder insures a seal against the atmosphere and yet allows sidewise movement of the brush.
A brush holder constructed as above described may be easily inserted within an aperture in the cap by merely pushing the smaller end 12 into the aperture; is easily and cheaply manufactured, and may be applied to any cap having an aperture.
While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1.. In combination with a bottle cap having an opening therethrough, a resilient holder seated in said opening and having a circu1nferentially enlarged portion for sealing over its engagement with the cap and having an axially extending portion, there being an opening through the axially extending portion and a brush having a stem passing through said axial opening and having gripping fit therein.
2. In combination with a bottle cap having an opening therethrough, a resilient holder seated in said opening and having an upper part and a lower part, the upper part being enlarged circumferentially for sealing over the engagement with the cap, said upper and lower parts comprisng a continuous hub portion, there being an opening through the continuous hub portion, a brush having a stem passing through said opening and having gripping fit therein, said resilient holder being adapted to yield relatively from the groove to a point of less dimension to the cap under sidewise movement of the than the groove and the upper part upward- 10 brush stem. ly and inwardly from a point of larger di- 3. A resilient brush holder having an opmension than the groove.
5 ening for gripping a brush and a groove for In testimony whereof I have signed my receiving the edge around an aperture in a name to this specification. bottle cap, the lower part of the brush, holder tapering downwardly and inwardly GEORGE B. BUSH;-
