J. A. HUMPHREY TOY DIRIGIBLE Filed Nov. 18 1924 INVENTOR Joseph A f/umphrqy Patented Nov. 1?",
UNITED STATES JOSEPH A. HUMI'HREY, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
TOY DIRIGIBLE.
Application filed November 18, 1924. Serial No. 750,556.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrH A. HUMrnnnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, county of King, and State of lVashington, have invented a new and useful Toy Dirigible; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention is a toy balloon in the form of a dirigible with smaller balloons under it, a propeller at the forward end and vanes at the rear.
lhe object of the invention is to provide a toy balloon similar to the large dirigibles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy dirigible that may readily be in tlated.
Another object of the invention is to pro 'vide a toy dirigible having objects representing smaller dirigibles in combination therewith in which both the larger and smaller dirigibles may be readily inflated from a common point.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a toy dirigible having smaller objects in the form of diri'gibles in combination therewith, with a stiffening rod extending through its entire length so that the propeller andvanes may be mounted thereon.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a toy in the form of a dirigible having smaller objects in the form of dirigibles suspended below it and also having a propeller at the forward end and vanes at the rear.
Other features and advantages of the in- :ention will be seen from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein r Figure 1 is a side view of the device.
Figure 2 is a front View.
Figure 2-3 is a view showing an alternate construction in which the smaller dirigibles are suspended from the large dirigible by air tubes throughwhich the smaller dirigibles are inflated.
l igure t is a similar small objects supported wire.
In the drawings I have shown my device as it would be constructed wherein numeral 1 indicates the large dirigible, numeral 2 the smaller objects and numeral 3 the stiffening bar through the center of the dirigible.
view showing the by atlun cord or The dirigible 1 may be constructed of thin rubber or any other suitable material and may be made in any suitable shape. The lower part of the bag 1 has tubes #1 leading from it to smaller bags 2 which may also be made of thin rubber or any other suitable material. It will be seen. that as the large bag 1 is inflated with air, a gas, or any suitable fluid, the fluid will pass through the tubes a and also inflate the smaller objects 2 below the bag 1.
The device may also be provided with line cords or wires 5 as shown for supporting the smaller objects and these cords or wires may be arranged in any suitable manner or at tached to the large or smaller objects in any suitable manner.
It. is also understood that the smaller objects 2 may be made of celluloid, mica, or any other like material as shown in Figure 4.
The rod 3, which may also be of any suitable size or material extends from a point (5 at the front of the device to a point 7 at the rear and has a propeller 8 rotatably mounted on the forward end and vanes 9 fixedly attached to the rear end. The bag 1 is attached to the rod at the points 10 and 11 in any suitable manner.
The bag 1 may be provided with a valve 12 tln'ough which it may be inflated and the smaller bags 2 have small propellers 13 rotatably mounted at the forward ends which will rotate as the device is moved for and.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the general design or arrangement of the main bag or any of the members, another may be in the proportionate sizes of any of the members, and still another may be in the use of more or less of the smaller objects 2 than shown.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a toy, a large cigar shaped bag with a plurality of smaller objects suspended be low it, a stiffening bar extending through the bag, a propeller rotatably mounted on the forward end of the bar, vanes on the rear end of the bar, other propellers on the smaller objects and tubes connecting the smaller objects to the large bag.
JOSEPH A. HUMPHREY.
