Application filed February 2, 1924.
To all 41; 710m it may concern Be it known that I, VVrnrrneM HorrMANN, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Breitestrasse 30, Delitzsch, near Halleonthe-Sails, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packings for X-Ray Films, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to the packing of X-ray films, of small dimensions, such as are commonly used for dental purposes.
It is the object of the invention to provide a packing of the class referred to which is of simple construction and may be cheaply produced.
For a full disclosure of the invention reference is made to the specification and the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof.
In the drawings v Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a film packing embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts in partly disassembled position; and
Fig. 3 is a similar view, partly in section, indicating the normal position of the diflerent parts.
In the drawings (1 represents the X-ray film to be exposed in the cavity of the mouth. The film is disposed between two leaves of paper or like material impervious to visible light rays. For the sake of convenience it is advantageous to fold asingle piece of paper 7) of the proper size so as to fully cover the film on both sides.
The film c and the opaque paper 5 lie in a channel defined by a piece 0 of pasteboard or the like, the lateral walls of the channel being extended outwardly forming flanges c].
A frame 03, which is of pliable material such as lead, tin or a suitable alloy, extends along both lateral walls of the channel piece on the outside thereof and along the ends of the channel. As clearly indicated in Fig, 3, the flanges c of the pasteboard channel piece are substantially co-extensive with the sides of the frame d on which they rest. The frame d, the channel piece 0 and the leaves 6 containing the film, in assembled condition, are covered on each side by a piece of paper 2 which is opaque to the visible light rays, and impervious to moisture.
The pieces of paper 6 are secured to the PACKIEG F 333, X-RAY FZTLMS.
Serial No. 690,290.
frame (Z by means of a strip f of thin paper or fabric which surrounding the frame and adhesively attached, also serves as an additional. shield against ingress of light.
As indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, a strip g of thin but strong matezial is preferably attached to the inner surface of one of the pieces of paper 6, folded over one edge thereof and sealed to the outer surface leaving a small grip portion. By this arrangement, after exposure, access may be easily had to the interior. It is merely necessary to pull on the free end of the strip 9 to break the seal it andthen rip the piece 6, as is well understood.
It is understood that there is considerable latitude in respect to the materials available for the construction as generally outlined. I do not make any claim to novelty other than the correlationship of the elements referred to in the manner described to produce a simple and cheap packing.
I claim:
1. A packing of the class described, comprising a frame of pliable material, a sensitive film disposed within the confines of the frame, covers of thin flexible material impervious to visible light rays and moisture extending across the frame on both sides thereof and enclosing the film and a strip of thin, flexible, opaque material extending around the edges of the frame and adhesively attached to the marginal portions of the said covers.
2. A- packing of the class described, comprising a frame of pliable material, a piece of material of the order of pasteboard having a depressed portion substantially fitting the space circumscribed by the frame and flange portions resting on one side of the frame, a film in the depression, covers of thin flexible material impervious to visible light rays enclosing the film and means for holding the parts in assembled relation.
3. A packing of the class described, comprising a frame of pliable material, a piece of material of the order of pasteboard having a depression substantially fitting the space circumscribed by the frame and flange portions resting on one side of the frame, a film and an opaque flexible envelope therefor disposed in the depression and covers of flexible material impervious to light and moisture extending across the frame on both sides thereof and enclosing the film, the said piece of material and the envelope.
4;. Arrangement according to claim 3 including a strip of thin flexible opaque material extending around the edges of the frame and adhesively attached to the sides thereof to form a retaining and protecting seal.
5. A packing of the class described including a frame of pliable material and a piece of material of the order of pasteboard having a depressed portion substantially fitting the space circumscribed by the frame and flanges resting on one side of the frame.
6. A packing of the class described including a piece of material of the order of pasteboard defining a depressed portion, lateral Walls and flange portions extending outwardly therefrom, and a frame of pliable material surrounding the said depressed portion and mechanically united with the said flange portions.
'7. In a packing of the class described, the combination of a frame of pliable material,
a sensitive film disposed Within the confines 25 of the frame, covers of thin flexible material imperrions to visible light rays and moisture, extending across the frame on both sides thereof, a strip of relatively thin but strong material adhesively attached to the inner surface of one of the covers and extending over an edge thereof and having a grip portion outside the cover, and a strip of thin flexible opaque material extending around the edges of the frame and adhesively attached to the marginal portions of the said covers.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
