Be-it known that I, Jon-N J. SwANsoN, a citizen.' of the VUnited States, residing atA Elgin, yin the county of Antelope and yState 'of Nebraska, have invented` certain new and useful' Improvements in Transmission-Pedal Controls, of which the following isa specicationgfreference beingdhad yto the accompanying drawings. This invention relates to transmission pedal controls and more particularly to the controlv 'of a low speed pedal of a planetary transmission. 1
An in iportantA object of the invention is to "providea device for 'holding this'pedal lin its low`speedipositionjso constructed that thepe'dal is firmly heldl in its operative positionf regardless of the wear upon the bands of `the transmissiomf permitting changes in "the movement 'of the pedal.-
A yuither'object "of the ,invention is to provide' a device of this lcharacjter which is semiautomatic in itsoperation, `automatically releasing when-itsjuse is no longer dej l'sired by a slight' pressure upon the pedal.
Astill further object of theA invention'is topr'od'uce a device of this character which may .be'verycheapl'y produced 'and readily applied fand' which will be durable and eiiicientinservice These 'and otherobjects I attain by the construction' shown in theV accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose ofY illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of;
i my invention and wherein:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing control apparatus constructedin accordance with` my'y invention applied tothe transmission ofa well' known type-of vehicle;
Figure-2` is a perspective of the mechanism, remov'edyfrom rvthe transmission; 'l
Figure?) is a lperspective of the lock iny the open position; and
Figure 4 is a perspective of the lock show- 'ing the samev in'closed' position.
In' th'e' accompanying drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates'the upper section ofthe case. of a planetary'transmission employedv .in a well' known type. of vehicle. In theV particular type of transmission case illustrated,'thenppersection of the case is provided' centrally with a removable plate 11 held in-positi`on by ysecuringV elements,
hereinafterI to be moreV particularly referred" to. To the left' of this pla te,'theoperating tion and avc'cordinglyi have" no't'been 'illust trained. TheV pedal L, or' pedal that` with 'Jwhich' th'e present invention .'ls

to swing the hook which is arranged at the left hand side of the pedal L away from the pedal. n
In the use of the device, the pedal L 1s forced forwardly by the foot to its greatest possible extent and the hand lever 27 is then moved in the direction of the arrow This causes the hook to be engaged'with the lever L and prevent its return movement, thus holding the band associated with the lever in its operative rlhe point of engagement of' the lever with the hook will be determined by thecondition 'of this band. If the band be but newly applied, the point of engagement will be at the outer end of' the lever but after the band becomes worn, the engagement will be further and further away Jfrom said outer end. This hook, when in applied position, will serve to hold the low-speed pedal in'its operative position without the necessity of the drivers placing his foot thereon, thus relieving the driver considerably when the machine is operating under heavy loads, ascending high hills or moving in the face oi"Y a high wind. When it is desired to release the pedal, all that is necessary is the application of pressure to the pedal, tending to force the same forwardly and releasing the p edal from its engaged notch. Vfirs soon as this notch isreleased',vthe spring 30 will act to move the hand lever 27 in theV direction opposite to that of the arrow A, causing the hook to be disengaged and the pedal released for its normal operation.
Since the constructionv hereinbefore set forth is obviously capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the splritoi` my invention, l do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.
