PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT n. MOORE, or HANSBORO, nomen- DAKOTA.
Po'r DRAINER.
Application filed January 3, 1925. Serial No. 336.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ALBERT E. Moonn,
tain new and useful Improvements in Pot Dramers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pot drainers, and more pant-icularly to a device for enabling a person to handle a receptacle to be drained while the same is hot, thus preventing any injury to the person handling the same.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a means which is adapted to be easily and quickly placed in an operative position upon a receptacle to be drained, whereby the l'attermay be easily tilted in order to drain the same.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a pot drainer which is especially adapted for use in conjunction with pots having the usual swinging bails thereon wherein means is associated with the device for holding the bail in a raised position, thus enabling the easy and quick operation of the tilting of the pot when the same is drained.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further well adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other ob'ects and advantages of this in vention wifl become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure l is a side elevation of a cooking receptacle with my invention applied thereon.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the frame.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally the frame forming a part of the device and the same may be formed of any suitable material, such as wire, although it is to be understood that any other material may be substituted therefor. The frame. 1 has its intermediate portion 2 looped and the arms 3 and 4 extend from the looped portion 2 in substantially parallel spaced relation. The arms 3 and 4 are bent downwardly adjacent the looped portion 2 thereof as shown at 5 in the drawing, and the free ends 6 and 7 respectively of the arms are also directed downwardly as shown at 8 in the drawing. A suitable conneetion such as is illustrated byv the numeral 9 in the drawing is adapted to extend across the arms 3 and 4 at the point where the free ends (3 and 7 are bent downwardly. The purpose of the above construction will hereinafter be more fully described.
Formed in each of the arms of the frame 1 at spaced intervals are the loops 10 and 11, respectively. The loops are arranged in such a manner as to have the loops on one of the arms registering with the loops formed in the other arm, and it is to be understood that these loops are preferably formed in the intermediate portions of the arms by bending the free ends 6 and 7 pre vious tovthe formation of the down turned portions of the arms and the application of the cross member 9, as heretofore described. These looped portions 10 and 11 form a means for pivotally supporting the lower free ends of the handles 12 and 13, respec tively. The handle are also formed of the same material as the frame and are substantially U-shaped so that the ends of the arms thereof will form ameans for permitting the handles to be pivotally associated with the looped portions of the frame, in the manner as clearly illustrated in the drawing. It is to be also understood that the handle 12 is slightly larger in width than the handle 13 so as to permit the arms of the handle 13 to be disposed between the arms of the handle 12 when the handles are crossed as is also illustrated in the drawing. The purpose of. this construction will also be hereinafter more fully described. If desired, the crown portion of the handle 12 may be provided with a smaller handle 14- In use, my device is adapted to be placed on the receptacle A in such a manner as to have the arms 3 and 4 of the frame 1 extending across the cover B which is provided for the receptacle A, and is loosely supported thereon in the usual manner. The handles both handles by the operator in one hand,
12 and 13 are then crossed so that the bail C of the receptacle A will rest on the, cross portions of the handles, and at the same permitting the upper portions of the handles to be grasped. If 'desired,the upper portions of the handles may be slightly curved-- inwardly so as to facilitate the grasping of The downwardly directed portions 6 and 7 of the arms 3 and 4 will abut one of the sides of the receptacle A and when in this position,
the down turned portion 5 will provide a handle to be grasped by the other hand of the operator when zit is desired to drain the receptacle.
The operationof the device wheninposition may be briefly stated as follows Theyhandle; 5 is grasped in one hand and the handles-.12 tand13 are grasped; inthe other and by exerting a pressure onthe,
handles-12 and 13, the .bail C'willhe tightly grasped :and thus permit. the receptacle 7 to be tilted andcausing a downward pressure of the-arms? 3 and 4 on the lid or cover-B,,-. whereby the :liquid within the receptacle A" may .be easily drained therefrom. without causing the hands of the operator-or"person handlingzthe receptacle to become scalded or burned.
The: simplicity of my device enables :the .7 same'to be used on::any kind or receptacle:
having a swinging bail and-is of such a construction as. to permit :the readyand easy,
appliance-of the same in-positionon the receptacle whenever it is desired tozdrainrthe Furthermore, my. device may bemanufactured at a minimum-cost and is also latter.
easily operated;
From the :foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will'be seen athatlhave provided a slm-ple,
' inexpensive and eflicient means for carrying out the ob3ects of the nvention, and whlle Having ;;t-hu s,described my invention,- what;
