' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARLAN J. MAYNARD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Safety Razors, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings repre 11o senting like parts.
This invention relates to safety razors, and more particularly to features designed to simplify, improve and reduce the cost of construction. The invention will be best understood by reference to the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying illustration of one specific embodiment thereof, while its scope will be more particu larly pointed out in the appended claims.

Herein the razor is provided with a detachable handle 25 having branched ends 27 forming a substantially rigid U-shaped structure and adapted to be, readily attached to or detached from the blade holding means by aniinterlocking formation in the two ends of the handle through which it may be engaged with the ends of the pins 19. 1
For this purpose the pins 19 are reduced in diameter at a point just below the outer face of the guard plate and are provided beyond that point withoutwardly flared or tapered walls, so that they terminate each in an enlarged end 29. To interlock with these ends 29 the two tips'of the handle are provided with aligned slots 31 extending from one side to the other side of the handle end, these slots having walls tapered in-.

By engaging the projecting ends 29 with the respective slots 31 and sliding both handle the respective ends of the members 29 so that the latter are aligned with the ends of the handle, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8.
Preferably the slots are tapered at a somewhat lesser angle than the projecting memparts engage near the ends of the pins, and preferably also there is provided such a formation as mcreases the binding pressure of the handle as the latter approaches the desired interlocking position. To facilitate the attachment and detachment of the handle, the blade holding means also preferably presents a guiding format on adapted to guide the handle in its sliding movement. The guard plate may be arranged symmetrically with reference tothe opposite edges of the razor, or it may be so arranged that the ends of the teeth will be relatively nearer the razor edge on one side than the other so that a closer cut may be effected through the use of one side of the razor" than through the use of the opposite side.

A safety razor having blade holding means, a substantially rlgid detachable handle having branched ends, and mechanical interlocking connections between the blade holding means and the ends of the handle, including a plurality of enlarged ends extending from said blade holding means and adapted to engage the tips of the handle ends and clamping and binding the parts together.
