PAPER AN D PLASTER-FOUNDATION SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Application filed August 24, 1922. Serial Nb. 584,143.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY L. WVoonJAno, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new: and useful Paper and Plaster-Foundation Supporting Device, of which the following is a specification.
My invent on relates to a device for securing building paper and supporting plaster foundation more particularly for spacing and supporting metallic netting from sheathing, studding or other wall structures principally for plastic wall eonstruction and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a device of this class which will reduce the cost of securing building paper and plaster foundation to wall structures .and 'also greatly facilitate the securing of the same; second, to provide a device of this class for securing-building paper in position to a wall structure and at the same time provide efficient means for securing hog, chicken or other wire netting or plaster foundation to the wall structure without the addition of other parts; third, to provide a device of this class which will space the plaster foundation from the walls as well as support the same thereon; fourth, to provide novel means for supporting plaster foundation; fifth, to provide a novelly constructed device of this class and sixth, to provide a device of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, efiicient, easy to install and will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features'of construction combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described inf detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the char-- acters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Fi ure 1 is a front elevational view of my evice showing the same supporting building paper in position to a wall structure and also supporting and spacing plaster foundation from the same; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof showing by dotted lines the securing nail partially driven into the wall structure and also showing by tegral portion of the clip portion; Fig.
'3 is another side elevation view thereof showing its partially distorted shape after being permanently secured to the wall struc ture; Fig. 4 is another side elevational view thereof showing a means of retaining the nail in the sup orting clip member; Fig. 5 is a slightly mo ified form of construction of my device with a portion of the clip member omitted; Fig. 6 is a front elevational view of another slightly modified form of construction of my device from that shown in Fig. 5 except that an additional outwardly extending hook portion is provided showing the hook portlon supportingand spacing plaster foundation fromthe wall structure; Fig. 7 is a side elevational view thereof; Fig. 8 is a front elevational view of another slightly modified forin of construction of my device showing the same securing building paper and plaster foundation to a wall structure; Fig. 9 is a sectional elevational view thereof taken through 99 of Fig. 8; Fig. 10 is another sectional view thereof taken through 1010 of Fig. 9; Fig. 11 is a sectional elevational View of another slightly modified form of construction of my device showing thevsame supporting building paper and plaster foundation to a wall structure and Fig. 12 is still another slightly modified form of construction of my vice.
Like characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views ofthe drawings.
The clip 1, and the nail 2 constitute the principal parts and portions of my device for supporting weather paper and plaster foundation in the preferred forms of construction.
The clip member shown in Figs. 1 to 7 of the drawings is preferably made of semiresilient sheet metal bent into a series of loops'to provide flexibility and simple and simultaneously to the securing and SPSAAIIg of the plaster foundation to the wall structure. It will also be noted that the head of the nail is spaced inwardly or toward the supporting wall structure from the plane of the plaster foundation, so that said head will not interfere with the applying of the plastic material to the wall structure as shown best in Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the drawings. The outermost loop portion 1 of the S shaped clip member of my device as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings is provided with an outwardly extending hook portion 1 preferably made an integral portion of the said member to receive and secure the plaster foundation, which hook portion is bent inwardly by the head of the nail 2 as the same is driven into the wall structure in securing the clip membei itself thereto.
The plaster foundation securing and spacing member in the modified form of construction as shown in Figs. 8, 9 and 10 of the drawings consists of a button 3 preferably moulded or pressed out of metal and is provided with a hook portion 3 as'pre viously described in connection with the plaster foundation securing member in Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawings. Said hook portion is similarly bent inwardly as the nail 2 is driven into the wall structure for securing the member 3.
The plaster foundation and securing member shown in Fig. 11 of the drawings consists of a solid block 4 with a transverse hole a therethrough to receive the nail 2 and a groove l contiguous to the hole 4* on the outside face of said block 4 to r ceive a strand of the plaster foundation, said strand being secured by the head of the nail securing the block 4 to the wall structure.
The building paper securing and plaster foundation securing and spacing member as shown in the modified form of construction in Fig. 12 of the drawings consists of a nail 5 with two heads 5 and 5, the latter head being spaced from and in alignment with the head 5 The head 5 is provided with a slot portion 5 in one side of said head and extends to the central portion thereof which slot is adapted to receive a strand of the plaster foundation. The member 5 is driven into the wall structure similarly to the conventional nail by driving on the extended head 5"; the strand of plaster foundation is then inserted in the slot 5 of the head 5 and by a blow of the hammer on the side of the head provided with the rangement of parts and portions and cer-.. f
tain modifications thereof I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement nor to the modifications but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, com
'bination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that the securing member may be made an integral ortion of or interwoven with the stran s of the plaster foundation if desired in order to reduce the cost and still further facilitate the securing of the plaster foundation to wall structures.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A device of the class described, including a yieldable plaster foundation supporting member formed with consecutive alternately disposed loop portions and a pointed securing member positioned at a substantial right angle to one side of said supporting member and extending therethrough adapted to secure said supporting member to a wall structure.
2. A device of the class described, including a plate, folded into consecutively spaced and alternately disposed resilient portions forming a plaster foundation securing and spacing portion at its outer end and a securing member extending through several of said folded. alternately disposed resilient portions into a supporting structure, positioning and lockin said plaster foundation in the securing an spacing portion of said supporting member.
A device, of the class described, including a plaster foundation supporting member provided with consecutively spaced and oppositely disposed, resilient, folded portions providing a plaster foundation securing and spacing portion at its outer end and a. nail means extending through holes in several of said folded portions into a wall structure, positioning and clamping said plaster foundation in the securing and spacing portion of said supporting member with its head, which head is positioned nearer the wall structure than the plaster foundation.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this, 16th day of August 1922.
' GUY L. WOODJARD.
