PATENT OFFICE.
OF NILES, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN FANNlNG-MILL SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,290, dated September 22, 874 application filed January 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, A. J. OLELAND, of Niles, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented anew and useful Improvement in the Construction of Grain-Separator Shoes, of which the following is a specification:
In the annexed drawing, Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section through the shoe to which my improvement relates, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same.
A represents a metallic plate on the front end of the shoe. B represents a metallic plate on the back end of the shoe. D represents the side of the shoe. 0 represents the sieve, and E E represent projections on the plates for the support of the sieves.
My invention has for its object, first, the strengthening of the shoe by securely attaching these metallic plates to its side, and thus avoiding the grooves commonly used in the shoes of grain-separators, allowing the sides to retain their full thickness, and hence greater strength than when grooved secondly, I am able, by this construction, to give the sieves any slant desired for cleaning, by allowing the ends to rest on any desired projection of the plates.
The plates A B are of iron, and are attached, by screws, to the sides of the shoe, making the construction cheaper and more permanent than by cutting grooves. The sieves are held in place by a rod, H, passing through both sides of the shoe, which is supplied with a thread and nut for drawing the sides of the shoe together, thus holding the sieves in place upon the projections.
As the plates A and B extend the entire depth of the shoe, the sides of said shoe are prevented from warping, and are held parallel to each other, so that I am able to clamp all of the screens and sieves simultaneously by means of the screw-threaded red X; and, by forming the lugs E on plate A oval shape, I am able to introduce the sieves more or less obliquely, as occasion may require.
What I claim is- The combination of the shoe D, metallic I plates A and B, and tension -rod X, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
ANDREW J. OLELAND.
