J. M. wlLsoN PELVIC TREATMENTDEVICE Filed April 14. 1924 LOU@ WL. Wibo@ Patented Sept. 1,v 1925.
UNIT-ED STATES JOHN M. WILSON, OF'sAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
I'Envro TREATMENT DEVICE.
` Application filed April `14:, 1924. `Serial No. 706,601'.
` To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pelvic Treatment Devices, of which the following is a specificat-ion. Y
My invention relates to devices for treatf ing painful affections of the lower pelvicl region, particularly of females, by the application of heat, and my improvements consist in the novel features of construction,
combination and arrangementof parts of aA device for this purpose as will be yhereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanyino drawings and particularly. defined` in the 2appended claims.A
In the drawings, wherein Vlike characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the different viewsz- Figure 1 is a view partly in longitudinal section and partly in side elevation of the body part of my device;
Figure 2, a longitudinal section through' the body portion showing the innersleeve mounted thereon; 1
Figure 3, a view partly in longitudinal section and partly in elevation showing the parts of the complete device arranged' to be.
used as a pessary;
Figure 4, an elevation of the device showj and consequently acts to relieve pains, and
accordingly it is the purpose of my invention to provide an improved device for applying heat to said parts. 1
The body 10 of my device is formed from rubber or other softJ pliable material and is of elongated, hollow cylindrical form, being conveXly rounded at one end (its inner end) as at 11, and interiorly threaded at the other end (its outer end) as at 12. At its inner end and at one or more places intermediate It is known, however, that its length it is provided eXteriorly with circumscribing flanges 13 that are interrupted circumferentially as at 14, while at its outer end is an exterior circumscribing,'uninterrupted flange 15. A threaded plug or stopper 16 is provided for engagement within the threaded outer end of the body to close the interiorl of same, and a plurality of apertures 17k formedin the wall ofthe body provide communication between the interior of the latter and its exterior between the flangesaforementioned. v r
An inner sleeve 18 is engagedl over the body lOand is maintained in spaced relation theretov by the flanges 13 and'15 and also by numerous lugs 19 projecting from the body, the closed inner end. of the sleeve conforming in shape to and being cemented or Otherwise secured against the convexlyrounded inner open end of the body, which open end it closes, and the outer end thereofbeing turned inward and kcementedxor'Otherwise secured to the flange 15 whereby a chamber formed between the body and vsleeve that e-Xtends'the 'full length of thebody and communicates with the interior of the vlatter through the aforesaid apertures 17.
A hollow inflated member 20` of rubber or other soft lpliable material and of substanti ally hemi-spherical shape, has one face conforming in configuration to and engaged against the closed inner end of the sleeve 18, and over this inflated member and over said inner sleeve is engaged an outer sleeve 21, which .outer sleeve, like the other parts of the device, is formedfrom rubber or other soft .pliable material'and acts to hold the positioned at the inner tions Offlanges 13 to completely fill thel chamberbetween the body and the inner sleeve, The stopper then is replaced and the device inserted in the vaginal cavity so that the ten'iperatureV -of the water contained` therein will be transmitted to the adjacent organs and thus relieve congestion, inflammation and pain, the member 20` acting to shield the delicate uterus from direct contact with the water filled portions of the vring 22 may be `engaged over, th
device. but serving to radiate, heati ori cold from the( device asthe caseinay be; in a gentle glow to the uterus as is manifest,
In cases where the vaginaltract i s con stricted a series of members-20505progres? sively increasing size may beilsedsrlrces; sively to gradually expandk the tract. Furthermore, the tonicity, of the, vaginal walls may sometimes be stimulated and in-A ereaeed by. alternate.. applieatooe of.t heataad @la aaa aes is; apparaat my: device readily retraite of, thisY forfafreatoaeet; the`v uterus. bei-na early i .,ra,.:eaaav by aar lledjoaember; 209.1'
