ORGAN.

Be it known that I, PEROY PRESTON, a citizen oi. the United States, residing at Ardmore, in the county of Carter and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Organ, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in organs and more particularly to a pipe tone pedal base tor use in connection with a combination piano and organ, one ot the objects of the invention being to provide a key action which can be moved into and out or operative relation with the organ mechanism' Without the necessity of iirst cutting away portions of the casing of the instrument.
Another object is to improve upon the means for controlling the sounding of the reeds.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which Will appear the description proceeds, the invention resides in the conibination and arrangement oi parts and in the details ot construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, Within the scope ot What is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment ot the invention shown can be made Without departing from the spirit oi"- the invention.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a transverse section through the structure. Fig. 2 is a section through the mutes shown in open position.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference 1 designates a piano key having a projection 2 adapted to engage and depress a lever 3. This lever is connected by a tracker l to a valve 5 yieldingly supported by a spring 6. This valve serves to control the tlovv of air betvv en the vacuum chest and the port 7 to pneumatic 18 hereinafter referred to. Port 8 is the eX- haust and is connected to the organ bellows at any convenient point. The vent 9 is the exhaust and intake ot the said pneumatic 18 Vand is a part of port 7. It is always open at one end, depending on the position otl the key. A tracker 11 keeps valves 5 and 10 in proper relative positions and is housed in vent It Will be noted that the projection 2 on the key 1 extends under the Wall of the caseA of the piano so that the key can be slid into or out ot operative relation with the lever 3 cut holes into the case or otherwise mutilate it.`
The vacuum chest of the reed board has been indicated at512, this chest being small enough to act as a tone qualilier. A reed has been indicated at 13 and the reed cell has been indicated at le. This cell is adapted to be closed by a valve 15 loosely mounted on retaining pins 16. Une end of the valve is hingedly connected by a leather strip 17 or the like to the bottom of a pnuematic 18, this bottom portion ot the pneumatic being movable While the upper portion is stationary as shown at 19. An air passage 20 entends through the stationary portion of the pneumatic and is connected by a pipe 21 to the port 7. he resonance chamber has been indicated at 22 and the top of this resonance chamber is shovvn at 23. In this top is provided a port 2a'- through which air is allowed to pass to the reeds. fr mute is hingedly mounted on the top 23, as shown at 25, it being designed to operate this mute by a pneumatic not shown. A double mute 26 is hingedly connected to the mute 25, this double mute remaining in Contact With the top 23 when the mute 25 is Opened, thus to make a sott pedal stop. It is designed to utilize a loud pedal stop to open both of the mutes 25 and 26 to ull capacity.
The pneumatic employed for this purpose hasnot been shown as it is believed the construction Will be obvious to anyone skilled in this art. r shutter or muiier 27 is hingedly connected to the top of the chamber 25 in which the mutes are mounted and this shutter is adapted to be operated by a pneumatic, not shown, for producing the sivellf7 The vacuum chest 12 is oi course in communication With the main air chest and for the purpose of convenience an opening for this purpose has been indicated at 29.
lVhat is claimed is z- 1. The combination with a resonance chamber having an opening therein, and a chamber above the resonance chamber, of a shutter for closing the upper chamber', a mute movably mounted Within the upper chamber tor closing the opening in the resonance chamber, and a double mute hingedly connected to said mute.
2. In an organ the combination with a and it becomes ,unnecessaryto resonance Chamber, a reed cell, and a vaenum chest, o1 reed interposed between the Chest and the reed Cell, a valve for closing the reed cell, a pneumatic for actuating the ValveA` means opening into the Vac-num chest for maintaining communication with a main air Chest, and key operated means for controlling the operation of the pneumatic.
3. In an organ the Combination with a Vacuum chest7 means for maintaining Communication between the vacuum chest and the main air chest, a reed cell, a reed interposed between said Cell and the vacuum Chest, and a resonance chamber, oi' a. valve normally Closing Communication between the reed Cell and the resonance chamber, a pnuematie for operating the valve, and key controlled means 'for actuating the pneumatic.
