LAUNDRY-TRAY FAUCET.'
Application filed March 21, 119257. Serial No. 17,412.
T o all whom t may conce-rn.'
Be it known that I, Or'ro G. HrrcHcooir, a citizen V'of the United States, residing at at Erie, county of Erie, State of Fennsylvania, haveinvented certain new and use ful Improvements in Laundry-Tray F aucets, of which the following is a specification.
. My invention relates to that class of devices known as laundry tray faucets, einbodying the usual hot and cold water sup-V ply pipes, a common mixing chamber, and a swivel discharge pipe, adapting the device to be used in connection with a two-coinpartment laundry tub; and has for its object to provide an improved means for detachably attaching the device either to the rear wall of a tub,'or to the wall of the room in proper relation..
In Letters Patent No. 1,496,756, granted June 3, 1924, to'Hays Manufacturing Com- Vpany, as my assignee, I have disclosed an improved faucet adapted for attachment to a laundry tub, and my Vpresent invention preferably aiins to utilize the same faucet casting as is disclosed in said patent.
In the accompanying drawing:- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my iin proved device shown attached to the rear wall of a conventional two-compartment laundry tub.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line ll-H of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device,
' the rear wall of the tub being shown in section.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view showing the device attached to the wall of a rooin in proper relation to the tub,
Figure 5 is a front elevation of the U- bracket forming part of the attaching means. v Y
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views.
In the said drawing, the reference numeral 1 ydenotes a combination faucet as described above, the saine being provided with the usual mixing chamber 2 for the hot and cold water, in the top of which is disposed a swivel discharge pipe 3 adapted to discharge into either section of Va two-com-` partinent tub, in a manner readily underd stood. Formed nte'oral with the bottoni wal?. of the mixing c amber 2 two lugs 4 each being apertured freely to receive a threaded bolt 5.
To this extent the 'device preferably is identical with the faucet disclosed in my patent hereinbefore referred to. Said bolts 5 vform ineans for detachably fastening to the lugs 4 a bracket 6, substantially U- shaped, as shown in Figure 2, the ends of the forwardly projecting armslthereof being out-turned at? to register with the lugs 4, and said out-turned ends being threaded to receive the inner ends of the bolts 5, whereby theparts may be firmly connected. The rear wall of this bracket 6 has a rounded depending portion 8, best seen in Figures 1. and 5, and is Vprovided with a central threaded aperture 9, and with a plurality of other smaller apertures 10, as shown.
When it is desired toattach the device to a l l laundry tub having a straight wall7 such as the ordinary .slate laundry tub shown in the inner wall of the tub, as seen in Figures 1 and 3. To assemble the device, the faucetis disposed with respect to the tub inthe position shown in Figure 1, with the arms 14 of the bracket 6 straddling the y transverse partition 15 of the tub, and by engaging the threaded end of the bolt 13 f with the central threaded aperture 9 of the bracket 6, the upper edge of the tub may be clamped between the depending arms .14 of the plate 11 and the depending semicircular portion 8 of the bracket 6, as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3.
Laundry tubs at the present time fre-y quently are made of enamel, and are formed with rolled upper edges such as shown in Figure 4, which are not adapted to receive the clamp hereinbefore described. In order yto'provide for the support of the faucet in Vproper relation to a tuby of this character, it is necessary to attach the same to the wall of a room, to the rear of thev tub, and this I accomplish by dispensing vwith the plate 11, and by attaching the bracket 6 to the room wall byv means of the screws 16 passing' vthrough the apertures 10 in said bracket. By' this means the faucet may be supported n proper relation to the tub, as rea^i1y will be understood,
In combination with a laundry tray faucet, a clamping bracket ixed to the base of the same and comprising a downwardly extending apert-ured rear portion, a clamping plate formed with downwardly extending` ends, and a screw bolt for drawing the two towards each other, said bracket being apertured to permit its attachment to a wall.
In testimony whereole I hereunto aflix my signature.
GTT() G. HITCHCGCK.
