IMPROVEMENT IN GUN-SIGHTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,871, dated September 8, 1874; application filed July 25, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. JOHNSON, of Newton, in the county of Middlesex, Massachusetts, have'invented a new and useful Improvement in Gun-Sights, of which the following is a speoication:

and then pointed out in the claims.
Figures l, 2, and 3 in the accompanying drawing are side elevations of guns, showing different forms of sights to which my invention is applicable. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are crosssections ofFigs. 1, 2, and 3, respectively, showing the sights in side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention I make a hollow cavity, A, with a tile, cut in the bottom in the front face of the sight, surrounding the sight-Opening, or above or below, or on two opposite sides of it, and rub or revolve the end of a match or other phosphorescent compound 'rile-cut cavity, vA, on each side.
I am aware that phosphorus has been used on sights; but
What I claim is- Sghts for Ere-arms, havin g the file-cut cavities A, to adapt them to receive phosphorus, as set forth.
