Ee it hnown that HENRY E. Lnrrsnr, e. citizen of the United States of America. residingT at New Britain, Connecticut, have invented fr new und nsefui Electric Switch, of which the following is e. specification.
My v invention relates particularly to switches sometimes known as reversing or :Emir-wsj; switches.
The main objec is to provide a simple,
'inexpensive out reliable and efficient mcch snism. yfiner-her object is to so construct the switch that standard housings und switch mechanism may ne used by simplg7 substituting suitable stationary Contact members.
Fig. 1 is e diagrammatic View showing two three-wifey switches and a four-wey switch embodying my invention arranged in circuitfor controlling translating: devices.
Fig. 2 is s section-ei View of o. switch embodying the improvements of my invention.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing the stationary Contact members.
The housing` 5 he of porcelain or of other suitebie material of suitable design. The switch mechanism proper may lic or" any suitable character with any suitable type of escapement so as to produce e snap action or quick breek. In the form herein shown of the push button type. s frame (3 is cletachsbiy secured in the housing by means of one or more screws such es This carries two parallel double ended switch members or blades such as 8 (but only one of which is illustrated) which are insulated from each other and pivotaily supported on bearings 9. fr rocher i0, whose opposite ends are connecetl to he tons 11 anci l2, is connected with t 1e switch members in ny suitebie manner to provide in. Quick breek action.
In opposite ends of the housing are mounted the Stationery terminali and contact memiiiustrated in Fig. 3. One member has two conteot heads or tips llf and 15 and. en anchorage foot 1G which is secured tothe housing, for instance, by -e screwv l?, and presided with bintiing screw 18. other member st the same enti of the housing is provided Wih Contact tips i9 and Of A?. the other end of the housing the contr-.zet anti terminal members are so con* stfructe. as to cross from one side to the other. @ne member. has a Contact tip 2l ntone side opposite the Contact tip 15, and s The tip on lle opposite side the piene v contncs if) :intl Q0. The o` member has a contact tig; Q3 in the pinne with ips i9. JU nml und :mother tip 2i in the pinne with tips M. l5 and Q1. Contact is connected with Q1 through hc metiimn of an arm Q5. mnl contact QS is connected. with 2f?.- hrougrh the medium or en .firm 26. These two firms are insulated from erich other nt ille poin of crossing in sonic suitable miur nor. for instance hy moons of insulating insert QT. The Contact anni erminai inemlicrs nrc provitlcrl with feet 2S. 2i and 3G, similar to foot lo :Tor securing them o the housirrcr and providing binding screw '3G ncctions.
The switch inem shown in Figi. 94. omi nt the some switch member (not shown) is oder.) co connect ille contzicis 20 omi 'iflhe if switch members are iiius n' oneri, curr passes through the sw'tch as indicoetl (lettori ilnes. is thrown to the operating either of j; circuit wiil in the housing and in the same plane. a binding screw for each terminal member, two contact tips connected .to each terminal member, the contact tips of one pairof terminals being integral with their innnediately adjacent terminal members, the contact tips'of the other pair of terminal mem bers being cross connected so that three of the Contact tips are arranged in one lside of the housing connected to the terminal mear ers in the same side ofthe housing. and the fourth Contact Atip in the same side otl the housing is connected to the Aterminal member in the opposite side of the hous'iurf. and switch members adapted to alternatel connect diagonali)- disposed contact tipsI in the respective sides of the housing.
2. In a four-way push button switch` two pairs of terminals adapted to be secured to a single. fiatl support, each member o1" one pair having two Contact heads integral therewith and in the same plane. each meml ber of the other pair of contacts having a contact head integral with ity and in a plane corresponding to the contact heads ot' one of the first mentioned pair of terminals and a second integral contact head in a plane corresponding.r to the Contact heads ot' the other tirst mentioned terminal and a pair of switch blades for electriealhv connecting,y thecorresponding pairs of said contact. heads.
3. la a four-a5Y switch.` two pairs of terminals. each member ot' one pair haringy two Contact heads integral therewith and in the same plane, each member of the sec-i ond pair of terminals having:r one integral Contact head for cooperating with one-of the iirst mentioned'terminalsand a second integral contactI head for cooperatingY with the other member of the tirst mentioned pair of terminals and switch bla/des for elec- Atriall)- connecting the contact heads of the iirst mentioned pair of tern'iinals with their corresponding diagonally disposed i contact heads of theterminal members.
4. In a four-way snap switch. a housing, a supporting:r i'oot secured in one corner thereof. an 'arm integral with said i'oot'aud approximately perpendicular to the plant thereof. said arm terminatingr in a contat-t tip. and a second integral arm disposed opposits-the trst arm and extendingobliquel;` thereto', said second arm terminating` in a contact tip positioned in a plane parallel to the first Contact tip.
In a foar-way snap switch. a housing, two coaclting terminals mounted therein, said terminals being provided with support ine1V feet in a common plane, each foot` having two integral projecting arms terminating r in contact tips lying in planes approximatel)v perpendicular to its supportingr foot. the plane of one tip ot' each terminal intersecting its own sumuntiug i'oot and the plane of the other tip of said terminal intersecting the supporting foot oi' the other teiminal. l
