Description

H. J.- CLENNAN ATTACHMENT FOR FOUNTAIN PENS Filed March 30. 925
Patented July 7, .1925.
UNITED STATES HOWARD J. CLENNAN', OF AVANT, OKLAHOMA.
ATTACHMENT FOR FOUNTAIN PENS.
Application filed larch 30, 1928. Serial No 628,749.
provide a removable attachment associated with the removable cap of the fountain pen so constructed as to fold a small rollof note paper for the purpose of taking notes and memorandums when no other paper is available.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be constructed so that the paper may be re plenished when the origina supply has been exhausted.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detall description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the pen constructed in accordance with my inven tion Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section through the cap and showing my invention applied thereto,
Figure 3 is an enlarged elevation showing the end of the paper protruding from the paper holder, and
Figure 4 is a cross section of line H of Figure 2.
Referrin to the drawing by numerals the fountain pen '1 is of the conventional type and is equipped with a removable protector cap 2 which, in this instance, is screw threaded in the usual manner as mdicated at 3 so that it may be attached to the body of the pen. The socket end of the cap 2 which embraces the pen point is tapered to form the' small'flat end 4 provided with an openin to receive the'shaft 5 upon which is mounte the roll of pa er-6. An annular flange 7 is provided at t is end of the cap 2 and the same is equipped with interior screw threads for receiving the screw threads on the paper casing 8.
The paper casing 8 is of the same size as the ca 2 with respect to its diameter and may be ong enough to provide an inner compartment 9 of any desired length where by paper of 'any preferred width may be included although it will be obvious that relatively narrow paper will be suflicient for the purposes of practical use of the invention. In the closed end 10 of the casing 8, a socket 11 is provided to receive the opposite end of the shaft 5 as shown to advan: tage in Figure 2 so that the roll of paper will be mounted to freely turn when it is to be drawn from the compartment 9. A longitudinal slot 12 is formed in the casing 8 through which the end of the paper is extende as shown in Figure 3 and the slot 12 is opened at the screw threaded end of the casing 8 so that the paper may be readily inserted when the parts are assembled.
It will be obvious from this description that when it is desired to use the paper, the pen will be removed from the cap 2 and a portion of the paper will be withdrawn through the slot 12 whereupon the pen point may be employed for making notes on the paper. The paper may be replenished by rerlilioving the casing 8 and inserting a new ro Claim:
An attachment of the character described comprising in combination, a fountain pen cap having one end opened and the other end closed, the closed end being provided with a tapered ortion having a reduced end nipped wit a perforation, said closed end 0 the cap also having a screw threaded flange, a removable casin having one end opened and the other en closed, the open end being ada ted for screw threaded con nection with t e said screw threaded flange on the cap,the opposite closed end of the casing bemg e nipped with an' interior socket, a shaft a apted to have one end received in the said socket, and the other end in the said erforation, and a roll'of paper adapted to e mounted upon the said shaft.
In testimon whereof, I have aflixed my signature in t e presence of two witnesses.
