HOE.
Application filed October 10, 1923. Serial'No. 667,705.
construction of a simple and efficient hoe by a novel method, employing the use ofpart waste material so as to minimize the expense of manufacture.
Another object of the invent-ion is the construction of a hoe employing apeculiarly-constructed brace, and assembling the parts in the manner which results in a strong and durable implement.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hoe construct-ed in accordance with the present invention, the handle therefor being indicated by dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a perspective vi blade.
Figure 3 is a vertical, central, sectional view of the hoe.
Figure 4 is aperspective view of the tubing of the hoe.
Figure 5 shows the blank from which the brace is formed. 7
Figure 6 is a sectional view, taken on line 6-6, Fig: 1.
Referring to the drawings by numerals,
w (it the 1 designates the blade of the hoe, which 1, r preferably form out of discarded band and circular saw steel, after saws are Worn down to certain sizes or are broken, whereby said saws become useless for the work they are intended for. I cut a pocket 2 in the upper edge of blade 1 for receiving the tubing 3. This tubing 3 is cut from stock and is comparatively inexpensive to produce, I can form the tubing 3 of any size desiredand then cut the blank (seeFig. 5) for the brace 4. This brace 4 is substantially triangular shape, in its blank form. I bend or form the blank into substantially a V- shaped structure, in cross section, as clearly indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 5 and the sectional view in Fig. 6; this angle brace at, by reason of its V-shaped structure, naturally fits around the rounded surface of the tubing 3 (Fig. 1), forming an efficient brace for the tubing and the blade.
I slightly extend theouter lower edge of the tubing (as at A, Fig. 3) beyond the outer face of the blade 1, the blade performing the function of a yoke, whereby a very s 'rong positioning of the parts is obtained.
As I assemble the parts, I weld the same together. At the present time I preferably use electricity for the welding.
I have found from practical experience that my method and product are very efficient from the standpoint of manufacture, as well as practical use in the field.
The handle 6 (dotted lines) is adapted t be inserted in the tubing Vhile I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes-as shall fairly fallwithin the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
A hoe comprising a blade provided with a recess in its upper edge intermediate its width, a short length of tubing having one end portion resting in said recess, said tub ing extending rearwardly from the blade, and a triangular brace arcuate in cross section disposed between and engaging the rear face of said blade and the under portion of the rear end of said tubing, the tubing, blade and brace being secured together at their points of contact. 7 V I In testimony whereof I hereuntoafiix my signature.
