MAT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JnNs PETER LARSEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, whose residence is VVoodmere, Long Island, county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mats and has for its object to provide a mat of inexpensive construction, which is more practical and sanitary than any of the kind heretofore known or now commonly used.
Another object of the invention is to provide a mat which will prove of long durability, as the parts mainly exposed to wear and tear may be substituted and renewed.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a mat constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line a a of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front ele vation with a part of the front rail, or frame, broken away in order to show more clearly the construction and arrangement of parts; Fig. 4t and Fig. 5 are detail sectional views.
Referring in detail to the drawings, my invention comprises a preferably rectangular frame having two side bars, or members and two shorter cross bars, or members 11. The ends of these frame bars are detachably connected by clamps, comprising two sections one of which 12 is rigidly secured. to the ends of the side bars, while the other section 13 is rigidly secured to the cross bars at their outer edges and adapted to receive the former, which has a projecting hook fitting the latter when joined together: said clamps are secured to the frame members by means of screws.
It is obvious that said frame lnen'd'iers may be connected in different ways such as by means of hinges, screws, etc.

ber of rollers 15 so as to permit a free rotative movement of said rollers.
The rollers are of a cylindrical shape and they have reduced end portions in case that a ball bearing should be decided upon to facilitate the rotative movement of such rollers.
Upon said rollers are mounted a number of cylindrical rubber tubes 16 of a comparatively hard quality; said rubber tubes being of a rather short length as indicated at 16 to permit the replacement of any one that has been worn out or damaged. The outer side of these rubber tubesv may be pro-. vided with a corrugated or uneven surface to make the scraping more effective.
While a close fitting of the rubber tubes with the roller is provided, there is mounted on both end pieces of said rollers between the rubber tubes and the side bars washers 17 to prevent any displacement of said rubber tubes and to secure a smooth run of said rollers in the holes of the side bars.
This mat has below as a bottom part a drawer or scuttle 18, while one side bar has its lower front part cut away as indicated at 19 to permit the insertion of such drawer.
The drawer 18 has a bottom 20; a backwall 21 and sidewalls 22: at the upper edge of said sidewalls are rigidly secured to these, at a right angle, flanges 23 adapted to slide in transverse grooves, provided in the side frames, as indicated at 24, to secure a steady movement of such drawer. The front-wall 25 of said drawer, closes up the reduced portion of the side bar, thereby giving said frame a finished appearance. To hold said drawer in closed position, a turn-strip 26 is secured by a screw to the upper part of the front or side bar.
To impart steadiness to such mat, there is secured below each end of the side bars, a. small rubber patch or footing 27..
