Description

J. STULL FENCEPOST BRACE HOLDER Filed March 11. 1924 61cm wen;
Patented June 30, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
'J'OHN S'I'ULL, F LECOMPTON, KANSAS.
FENCEPOST-BRACE HOLDER.
Application filed March 11, 1924. Serial No. 698,543.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S'rULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lecompton, in the county of Douglas and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fencepost- Brace Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the art of fences and has more particular reference to a fence post brace holder whereby the upper end of a diagonally extending post brace may' be rigidly and quickly attached to the fence post.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a fence post brace holder wherein the same may be employed in the at tachmentof braces to fence posts Without requiring any great skill upon the part of the construction man and one that will maintain said brace in firm engagement with the post.
With the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, this invention comprises a novel form of fence post brace holder hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevational view of a wire fence, the diagonal post brace shown being disclosed as secured at one end to the fence post through the medium of the present holder,
Figure 2 is a detailed vertical sectional view through the holder per se, and v Figure 3 is a front elevational view 40 thereof.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, 5 indicates a conventional form of wood fence post, 6 the usual fence wire a strands, and 7 the usual diagonally extending fence post brace, to be secured at its opposite ends to adjacent fence posts or at meet with all of the requirements for a sucits upper end to the fence post 5 and anchored at its lower end within the ground.
My lnvention per se embodies the provision of a holder that is adapted to securely 50.
of a substantially oval-shape sheet metal 1 .plate 8 formed adjacent its upper and lower ends with openings 9 whereby the same may be rigidly secured to the fence post through the medium of nails or other desirable securing means 10. 69
Formed upon the outer face of said substantially oval-shaped plate 8, is a downwardly diagonally extending tapered socket 11 within which the adjacent end of the brace 7 is to be wedged in a manner clearly shown in Figure 1.' I
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, useful and efficient form of fence post brace holder and one that will cessful commercial use, and even though I have herein shown and described the most practical embodiment of the invention with which I am at this time familiar, it is never-- theless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the invention. without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 8 ters Patent is: I
A. fence post brace comprising a plate adapted to be applied to the side of the post, a sleeve carried at the side of the plate and having a conical socket, the axis of which is disposed at an acute angle to the plane of the plate, the socket of the sleeve being adapted to snugly receive the tapered end portion of a brace.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN STULL.
