Description
UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR KNAPP, OF BROQKLYN, NEW YORK IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-WATER RETORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,401, dated August 25, 1874; application filed July 15, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR KNAPP, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soda-Water Retorts, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, .clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which. it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of soda-water retorts and like vessels.
In the drawings is represented a vertical longitudinal section of a seltzer-water bottle constructed according to my invention.
My invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of parts and appliances, as hereinafter set forth and claimed, wherein- A is the body of the retort, provided at its upper end with an opening, A, for filling the same and for drawing 0% the contents. Bis the lower portion or removable bottom, constructed of somewhat heavier and thicker material than the top portion A, so as to form a ballast or anchor forfthe vessel. 7 O is the male screw formed upon 'theupper portion A of the body, and G the female screw formed upon the bottom or lower portion 13. 'D is the lining, made in two sections, the upper portion D and the lower portion D corresponding with the sections of the body. This lining is united by bending a portion, d, of the top rim of the lower or bottom portion D of the lining inward, so as to fit snugly up into the top portion; thus, when the parts of the retort are united by beingscrewed up together, the lining will be forced together, one within the other, as shown, and a secure and tight joint efl'ected. E is a screw-plug projecting down through the opening at the top of the outer casing, and secured in place by a cilitate the removal, repair, or cleansing of the inner lining, or the interior of the retort,
which is easily accomplished by simply unscrewing the bottom, when the bottom of the lining will drop out, thus giving access to the interior of the lining and retort.
I am aware that soda-water retorts have been constructed in two sections, provided with an internal lining, also made in two sections; but the parts were rigidly and permanently united by bolts or rivets passing through a projecting flange of the retort, and were not adapted or intended to be readily and. quickly taken apart when desired. This, therefore, I do not broadly claim; but
What I do claim as new and of my invention, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, is
In combination with the retort A, 0011- structed with the heavy removable bottom B, the parts united by the male and female screw 0 0 formed upon them, the internal lining D, constructed with the removable bottom portion D d, which fits up into the top main body D of the lining, the parts securely united, and forced one within the other by the screwing together of the parts A3 of the retort, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of
