To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. PINNELL, citizen of the United States, residin at Sedalia, in the county of Douglas and tate of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Thermostatic Circuit Closers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an electrically operated alarm for brooders, and the object is to rovide, in connection with suitable mounting means, a thermostatic wafer, and particular means for completing a circuit and sounding an alarm when the temperature rises above a specified point, or falls below that point.
A further object is to provide a stem for mounting the wafer referred to, the stemhaving one end thereof connected with the circuit, the opposite end cooperating with a sprin held and adjustable contact when the wa erexpands, and said stem carrying an element for engagement with an additional spring held contact member, when or rod '15 to -'comeJinto' engagement with the-'contactelement i16carried by the flat spring 17. This jsprging is mounted in a metallicblock' 18 carrying a binding post 19 and including an arm 20 through. which an adjusting screw 21, passes. This screw is designed-to control the space between the end of rod 15 and contact element 16. The upper end of the rod is guided by metallic plate 23 mounted on the dry'wood insula-' tion of the frame.
The stem 15 comprises aportion of an electric circuit and the separate lower end 15 extends through plate 24, and a binding screw 25 provides means for connection with wire 26 leading to battery 27, bell 28 and bindin 0st 19. In carrying out my invention, I provide suitable mounting means, such as a frame 10 formed of dry wood, and preferably of hard wood. The elements of the'frame may be connected by bolts or screws-11, the heads and nuts being countersunk.
A thermostatic wafer is designated 14 and the expansion thereof causes the stem ments 30, 31, lower stem 15', post 25, wire 26, battery 27, wire 27, bell 28, wire 29, post 19, wire 36, post 3 bracket 33, spring 32, and the contact elements specified. The circuits are normally open, the adjusting screws 34 and 21 being set at t e points required to retain the alarm inactive so long as the thermostatic wafer 14 neither expands nor contracts beyond the prescribed limits.
A transverse brace is designated 38, and a coiled spring 39 surrounds the stem, 1n the manner shown. The spring bears against plate 40 and against washer 41, the latter being carried upon the upper end of square portion 42 o the stem which is non-rotatable with reference to element 38, but slides therethrough, and carries contact element 30. The lower end 43 is secured to wafer 14, so that the contraction or. the
