Description

a single-tree or UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE,
WILLIAM LEVY AND WILLIAM A. CHRISTIAN, OF ASHLAND, PENN.
IMPROVEMENT IN RElN-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,260, dated August 18,1874 application tiled July 28, 1874.
To all whom itmay concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM LEVY and WILLIAM A. CHRISTIAN, of Ashland, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Vehicle Rein-Guard; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view, showing the invention applied to shafts Fig. 2, .the same view, showing the invention applied to a pole or double-tree.
The invention relates to harness; and consists in means whereby the entanglement of' driving-reins with single-trees and many other accidents may be effectually prevented.
A represents a poleor pair of shafts having pair of single-trees, B. Q is a double-tree or cross-bar to which the singletrees are pivoted in the middle. On this piece we fasten a single or double bracket, D, having a single bow, d, in line with, and a double bow, at, at right angles to, the end of singletree. It is thus rendered impossible for the reins to go under the singletree, while if the king-bolt or either trace should break or become detached the single-tree will not strike the legs or heels of the horse or allow him to make his exit from shafts. the guards to the ends of single-tree will also secure the traces from becoming detached while being put on with rivets or bolts. They will also serve as a re-enforcem cut to the woodwork, and be a guard against splitting.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is- The combination, with the ends of vehicle single-trees, of the bracket D, having single and double bows at d, as and for the purpose specified.
WILLIAM LEVY. WILLIAM A. CHRISTIAN.
