Corresponding and like parts are referredto in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters. The machine embodies a suitable frame including side members 1 and transverse connecting members 2, 3 and 4. This frame is supported by means of caster wheels 5 and drive wheels 6 which are mounted upon axles 7. The reel 18 is rotated to cause its teeth to travel upwardly and rearwardly in the spaces formed between the teeth 13, and as a result stones lifted by the teeth 13 are moved upwardly and rearwardly thereover by the teeth of the reel 18. A sprocket wheel 21 fast to an end of the shaft of the, reel 18 is connected by meansof a sprocket chain 22 with a sprocket wheel 23 loose upon an axle 7 and in this manner the reel is driven by one of the ground wheels 6. A suitable clutch 24 is provided to connect the sprocket wheel 23 with the adjacent drive wheel 6 and this clutch is operable by means of a shifter 25, whereby to admit of throwing the reel into or out ofaction, as required.
An endless elevator 26 is disposed be tween the teeth 13 and .thereceptacle for receivingthe stones and operates to convey the stones from the teeth 13 to said receptacle. The endless elevator 26 may be of any preferred construction and, as shown, comprises side chains and slats. A shaft :27 is mounted in the side members 1 adjacent the transverse member 3 and is provided at its endswith sprocket wheels 28 which receive the side chains of the elevator 26. A gear wheel 29 fast to an end of the shaft 27 is in mesh with a gear wheel 30 loose on the adjacent axle 7 and adapted to be connected therewith by means of a clutch 31 which is operable by means of a shifter 32, whereby to admit of throwing the elevator into and out of gear, as re quired. The provisionof the gear wheels 29 and 30 causes the upper run of the elevator 26 to travel'upwardly and rearwardly, thereby carrying the stones fromthe teeth 13 into the receptacle at the rear of the ma chine and closed by means of the end gate 9. A pulley 38 fast on the shaft 27 supports the endless elevator intermediate the sprocket wheels 28. Sprocket wheels 34 mounted upon the inner side of the members 1 adjacent the transverse member 2, support the lower portion of the endless elevator 26, the side chains of which pass around said sprocket wheels A sweep 35 is mounted upon one of the side members 1 and a rein holder 36 is attached to said 'side member and supports the driving lines in a manner to prevent interference thereof with the reel 18. An arched bar 37 serves to connect the side membersl and incidently provides a guard and elevator. 7
As' the machine is. drawn over the field, the teeth pick up stoneswhichare moved thereover by means of the reel and delivfor the reel ered to the elevator, the latter carrying the stones upwardly and rearv-.'ardly and discharging the same into the receptacle from which they are discharged when required by means of the end gate 9. The teeth 13 combined with the teeth of the reel 18 operate in the capacity of a harrow to loosen and lighten the soil, as will be readily understood.
hat is claimed is:
1. A machine of the character specified including gathering teeth, a reel disposed forwardly of and above the gathering teeth and adapted to eoact therewith, and means by which the gathering teeth and reel may be adjusted with respect to each other and to the ground.
2.111 a machine of the character specified, pivoted gathering teeth, a bar disposed beneath these teeth, means for adjusting the bar to raise orlower the teeth, a reel disposed forwardly of and above the gathering teeth'and adapted to coact therewith, and means for raising and lowering said reel with respect to said teeth and the ground. I
3. A machine of the character specified comprising a frame including side members and a transversely disposed connecting member, gathering teethpivoted to said transverse member, an adjusting bar disposed beneath said teeth to effect vertical adjustment thereof and having its ends bent at a right angle and pivoted to the side members, a bar operating lever mounted upon one of the bent ends of the bar and provided with an arm engaging the bar, anda notched member cooperating with the lever to secure the teeth in adjusted position.
In testimony'whereof I aflix my signature in presence ,of two witnesses. BAPTISTE COTE.
