warren STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DUNCAN MENZIES AND ivisaonararue MACHINE.
Application filed lliiarchll, 1924. Serial No. 698,523.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, DUNCAN, MnNzms McLin'roon, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at Anchor hread Mills, Paisley, Scotland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mercerizing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mercerizing machines and consists in an improvement in or modification of the invention protected by United States Application No. 595,843, dated the 20th day of October, 1922, having for its object to enable any desired portion of the wash or liquid from the mercerizing tank to be diverted into a separate drain or otherwise treated to facilitate its recovery.
The invention also consists in an improvement in or modification of the apparatus claimed in Specification No. 595,843 in which the outlet from the mercerizing tank is associated with a movable deflecting member, the position of which is determined by the position of the mercerizing tank.
The invention also consists in the provision of means whereby the deflecting member may be positioned independently of the mercerizing tank.
The invention still further consists in the form of apparatus hereinafter described or indicated.
The accompanying drawings illustrate one form of apparatus in accordance with the invention Figures 1 and 2 are front elevations showing a portion of a mercerizing machine in accordance with the invention with the parts in different positions;
Figure 3 is a side elevation partly in section.
In carrying my invention into effect, I construct my improved mercerizing machine in the manner described in the prior Specification No. 595,843. The outlet a from the mercerizing tank I) is associated with a defleeting member 0 suitably pivoted, as at (Z, so that in one position (shown in Figure 1) it will deflect the outflowing liquid to waste while in the other position (shown in Figure 2) it will convey the same to a separate drain 0 or other means by which the liquid may be readily recovered.
The deflecting member 0 is adapted to be positioned by means of a suitable bar 7 which is actuated by a catch 9 movable with -moving bar 7 lease the said bar from its retaining catch,
the mercerining tank so that when the latter is in its lowermost position the deflecting member assumes one of its two positions while when the mercerizing tank is raised (as shown in Figure 2) the bar referred to is also raised, thus moving the deflector into its second position. Such bar may, however, be released at any time during the operation of the machine by means of an adjustable cam tappet h adapted to co-operate with a second tappet 2' (also adjustable) on a swinging or other bar is or other member adapted to be moved into contact with the deflector or otherwise operating to rethus re-positioning the movable deflector 0 there being, if necessary or desirable, a counterweight Z on the lower end of the bar f to facilitate the return of the parts when so released.
It will be. understood that the invention is not to be limited to the particular details of construction which are hereinbefore given by way of example since it will be obvious that I may modify the form and arrangement of deflector, the number of positions which it. may be made to assume and the particular means for controlling the movement of the deflector, depending upon any particular practical requirements that may have to be fulfilled.
Having now described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A mercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable mercerizing tank having an outlet and a deflecting member associated with said outlet and movable with movement of said tank.
2. A'mercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable mercerizing tank having an outlet, a deflecting member associated with said outlet and movable. with movement of said tank, and means for releasing said deflecting member from the osition to which it is moved by movement of the tank.
3. A mercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable mercerizing tank having an outlet, a deflecting member associated with said outlet and movable with movement of said tank, means for releasing said deflecting member after movement by said tank and cam means controlling said releasing means.
ill)
4. A inercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable mercerizing tank having an outlet, a pivoted deflector associated with said outlet, a link secured to said deflector, and a projection on said tank which on movement of the tank engages said link to move said deflector.
5. A mercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable mercerizing tank having an outlet, a pivoted deflector associated "ith said outlet, a link secured to said deflector, a projection on said tank which on movement of the tank engages said link to move said deflector and means for causing a disengagement of said projection from said link independently of movement of the tank.
6. A Inercerizing machine comprising in combination a movable nercerizing tank having an outlet, a pivoted deflector associated with said outlet, a link secured to said deflector, a projection on said tank which on movement of the tank engages said link to move said deflector and cam operated means for causing disengagement of said projection from said link independently of movement of the tank.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
DUN CAN MEN ZIES MOLINTOOK.
