Description
B. H. VETTER CELERY BUNCHER June 9, 1925.
Filed Aug. 2, 1922 Patented June 9, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN H. VETTER, OF LYNNHAVEN, VIRGINIA.
OELERY BUNCHER.
Application filed. August 2, 1922. Serial No. 579,113.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN H. VETTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynnhaven, in the county of Princess Anne and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Celery Bunchers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for bunching articles, and more particularly to a machine for bunching celery and like vegetables; and it consists of a frame or table upon which the article may be placed and compressed by the foot of the operator, who manipulates a pressing frame or lever, and the articles are thus held together until they are tied.
The object of the device is to so construct the same, that it will have but few parts, may be easily and cheaply manufactured, and may be manipulated with ease and efliciency.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like symbols of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views Figure 1 is a front view of my device;
Figure 2 is a cross-section on line 2-2, Figure 3;
Figure 3 is a sectional side view of the same with cable, screw, and spring 10 omitted;
Figure 4 a perspective view with the table removed; and,
Figure 5 is a pressing frame.
In the drawings, 1 represents the table or main structure of the device; 2 a pressing frame, composed of side pieces 3, 4:, and a cross-piece 5 connecting the same. To crosspiece 5 is connected a rope 6, said rope passing over a pulley 7, the object of the same being to operate the frame. 9 1s a second cross-piece connecting the rear of the frame, and to which a spring 10 is connected, said spring being connected to the main frame by a screw 11.
12 are standards rising from the pressing perspective view of the frame, the object of the same being to con-.
tactwith the articles to be bunched and press the same. These standards are on the ends of cross-pieces 3 and 4, and the cross the standards of the frame and table, and
, pieces pass through slots 13 and 1 in the cross-piece 15 connected to the main frame.
16 are standards on the table, the object of the same being to act in conjunction with the standards of the pressing frame in controlling the celery while it is being pressed. 17 indicates the celery being bunched. 18 1s a presser bar working in slots 19 and 20 in the table; 21 treadle connected to the same; and 22 links connecting the bar 18 and treadle. 23 is a spring connected to the treadle and table, the object of the same being to hold the treadle normally elevated and assist spring 1 0 in returning the presser frame to its inoperativeposition.
24 is a standard or support for the footbar, the same having a series of holes 25 to enable adjustment of the foot-bar.
The operation of the device will be apparent from the foregoing description. The celery or other article is placed on the table between the standards, as shown in Figure 2, the foot-bar is operated by pressing the foot thereon, and the bundle is then tied.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A vegetable buncher, a table, standards rising from the same, a sliding frame having guides in the table, standards connected to the sliding frame, means for operating the frame to compress the articles between as means to retract the frame after operation. 2. In a vegetable buncher, a table havinglateral and longitudinal slots formed in the same, a sliding frame having guides in the table, standards on the frame working in the lateral slots, a presser bar working in the longitudinal slots, and a treadle to operate the presser bar.
3. A vegetable buncher, comprising a table formed with lateral and longitudinal 7 slots, a sliding frame having standards working in the lateral slots, a presser bar working in the longitudinal slots, a treadle to operate the presser bar, a spring to hold the presser bar normally elevated, a cable connecting the treadle with the sliding frame, and a spring to hold the sliding frame normally retracted.
4. A vegetable buncher, comprising a table formed With lateral and longitudinal slots, a sliding frame, standards rising from the frame and Working in the lateral slots, a presser bar Working in the longitudinal slots, a treadle to operate the presser bar, standards on the table to operate in conjunction with the standards of the sliding frame a spring to hold the treadle elevated, a
spring to retract the sliding frame, a cable connecting the'treadle and sliding frame, a I" pulley over which the cable passes, and a bar having guides in which the sliding frame Works. g
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
BENJAMIN H. VETTER.
