ELSA BOYANOE AND MARIE PEKARY, OF NEW. YORK, N. Y.
DISHWASHER.
Application filed January To all whom it may canoe m:
Be it known that we, ELSA BoYANon, a citizen of the United States, and Manna P15111121, a citizen of Hungary, and residents of the city of-New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Dishwasher, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to dishwashers and more particularly to an attachment for faucets which is adapted to thoroughly clean dishes, pots, pans or any other analogous articles.
An object of the invention is to provide an attachment for faucets, having a mop thereon through which the water from the faucet is directed and which is manually revolved so as to thoroughly clean the article placed against the mop.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which can be manufactured and sold at an extremely low price, which will be neat and attractive in appearance, and which will most efficiently perform the functions for which it is intended.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will prevent wetting of the hands while washing the dishes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangement of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating the improved device in operative position on a faucet; I
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section of the device.
1 represents a faucet, such as commonly found in kitchens and laundries, and on such a faucet the improved device is adapted to be positioned and will now be described in detail.
2 represents a cylindrical casing having a washer or gasket 3 in its upper end adapted to fit snugly around the outlet end of the faucet 1, and serves not only to hold the device on the faucet but to prevent leakage.
This casing 2 is made with a vertical central barrel 1 in its lower portion, the latter having flanges5 and 6 at its upper and lower edges which are secured to the inner 7, 1925. Serial No. 1,050.
face of the casing in any approved manner. The barrel 4 constitutes a bearing for a tube 7, which fits the barrel and which at its upper end has an outwardlyfiared flange 8 bearing against the upper flange 5 so as' to hold the tube against downward movement to prevent the escape of water around the tube and yet allow the tube to be freely turned.
The lower end of the tube has, preferably, a flared or conical outlet end 9, over which amop 10 is located and, preferably,
secured around the tube 7 by a wire, cord or other securing device 11. This mop 10 may comprise any desired number of thicknesses of fabric which will function to scrub or rub the surface of a plate or other article, indicated by dotted lines 12 in Figure 1, but will also be sufficiently porous to allow the water to flow freely therethrough. A gear wheel 13 is fixed to the tube 7, and a gear wheel 14, preferably larger than the gear wheel 13, meshes with the gear wheel 13 and is mounted upon a removable screw 15, screwed into the'casing 2 and preferably spaced from the casing by a washer 16.
A handle 17 is provided on the wheel 1 1 to facilitate its manual manipulation.
Attention is particularly directed to the shape of the teeth of the gear wheels 13 and 14.. The teeth of gear Wheel 13 are inclined downwardly while the teeth of the gear wheel 14- are also inclined downwardly and inwardly so that the teeth have a perfect mesh. The gear'wheels can be made of sheet metal. They function to prevent any upward movement of the tube 7, the downward movement of said tube being limited by the flange 8 thereon.
The operation of the device is as follows: It is simply necessary to slip the casing 2 over the end of the faucet l, the gasket 3 holding the parts properly coupled. When the water is turned on and a dish or other article located against the mop 10, the handle 17 is operated to revolve the gear wheel 14, and through the medium of the gear wheel 13 transmits rotary motion to the tube 7 and the mop 10 thereon. This operation will permit a rapid and efficient cleaning of plates or other articles with a mini mum of labor, and will greatly facilitate the disagreeable task of dishwashing as now performed. I
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence we do not limit ourselves to the precise details set forth but consider ourselves at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
e claim:
A dishwasher of the character described comprising a casing, a gasket in the upper end of the casin adapted to fit around the outlet end of a Iaucet and hold the casing thereon, a barrel located centrally in the casin and terminating at its u er end tube havin rotar Y mountin in the barrel a flange at the upper end of said tube resting on the upper fiange'of the barrel to '1 support the tube in its lowermost position, said tube having an outwardly flared lower end, a mop secured around the lower end of the tube, intermeshing gear Wheels on the casing and tube respectively, and a handle on one of said gear wheels, the gears cooperating to prevent upward movement of the tube in the barrel.
