UNITED STATES PATENT car er...
ALEXANDER RISPEL AND LOUIS C. LIEDTKE, OF CHICAGO ILLINOIS. I
MEAT COMPRESSOR.
Application filed February 24, 1925. Serial No. 11,231.
To (tr/Z whom it may concern:
lie it known that we, ALEXANDER Rtsrm. and Louis C.LIFD'1KE, citizens of the United States, residing. at Chicago, in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Meat Compressor, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application, is adapted to be used for compressingground meat and other substances which are used in the making of sausage of various kinds, scrapple, and the like. The invention aims to provide a device of the sort alluded to whereln novel means is provided for securing, resilently,
the pressure which is exerted upon the meat or other substance, the construction being such that the pressure may be adjusted, and it being possible to separate parts of the structure, readily, to permit the removal of the substance after it has been pressed.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that sort to which the invention appertains.
Although a preferred form of the inven tion has been shown, it will be understood that a mechanic, working within the scope of what is claimed, may make such changes as his skill may suggest, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in longitudinal section, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being in elevation; Figure 2 is a cross section wherein parts appear in elevation.
The meat compressor forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made of metal throughout, and comprises a box-like container C, open at the top, and tapering slightly, it desired, from its top to its bottom. There are outstanding keepers on the ends of the container C at the top thereof.
The letter P designates a pressure mem--- her, which is a composite structure, the pressure member embodying a foot plate 4, of such a size as to fit somewhat loosely in the container C, the foot plate having a depending marginal flange 5. -A bridge 6 is superposed on the foot plate 4 and constitutes part of the pressure member P, the bridge 6 including a body 7 in the form of a bar,
the bodyhaving depending arms 8 pro vided with laterally extended bosses 9 receiving securing element 10. such as screws, which, being threaded through the foot. plate 4, serve to hold the bridge 6 on the foot plate 4. In the arms 8 of the bridge 6,
seats 11 are formed, the foot plates 4 serving to form the bottom of the seats 11. In the intermediate portion of the body or bar 7 there is a guide opening 12. A stop 14, in the form of a pin or rivet, extends across the guide opening 12 and is mounted at its ends in the bar 7 of the bridge 6.
The letter R designates a retainer, made up of a main member or bar 16 equipped intermediate its ends with a depending finger 17 mounted to slide in the guide opening 12 of the bridge-bar 7, the finger 17 having an elongated slot 18 receiving the stop pin 14. Adjacent to its ends, the bar or main member 16 of the retainer R has depending supports 19 received loosely in the seats 11 of the bridge 6. Latches 20 are provided, and are supplied with racks 21 adapted to engage the keepers 2 on the container C. At their upper ends, the latches 20 have ears 22 between which the ends of the retainer bar 16 are received, the ears 22 of the latches 20 being connected to the ends of the bar 16 by pivot elements 23.
A resilient means is provided for depressing the pressure member P, and with this consideration in mind, compression springs 24 abut at their upper ends against the bar 16, and at their lower ends against the foot plate 4, the compression springs extending into the seats 11 and extending about the parts 19, which are called supports, because they prevent the'springs 24 from bowing sidewise, in combination with the seats 11.
The notches 20 are so hung that they tend to swing inwardly into engagement with the keepers 2. When a sufficient quantity of meat or other substance is in the container C, the retainer R may be pushed downwardly, the racks 21 of the latches 20 engaging automatically with the keepers 2', the springs 24 being compressed, and pressure being exerted on the meat, by way of the foot plate 4. hen the pressure member P and parts associated therewith are removed from the containerC, the springs 24 expand, but the stop 14, arriving at the end of the slot 18. prevents the retainer R from being detached from the pressure member P.
Having thus described the invention,
5 What is claimed is In a device of the class described, a container, a pressure member comprisinga foot plate located in the container and a bridge carried by the foot plate, a retainer having 19 a finger slidable in the bridge, means for limiting the sliding movement of the finger in the bridge, com ression spring means Interposed between t e retainer and the pressure member, and latches carried by the retainer and engaging thecontainer.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto aflixed our signatures.
