U I D STATES 1,437,318 PATENT OFFICE.
ARCH KYLE, or KNOXVILLE, TEN EssEn, ASSIGNOR 'ro vKNOXVILLE GLOVE coMPANY, 4 or KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE, A CORPORATION or TENNESSEE.
GLOVE.
Application filed September 2, 1921. Serial 110. 497,906.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, ARCH KYLE a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of Knox and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lowing is a specification.
My said invention relates to improvements in gloves and particularly in working glovesfor men, it being an object of the inventionto provide a working glove which shallv be unusually. comfortable to the the thumb.
.parallel strips as here shown.
wearer.
A further object of the inventionyis to provide means for holding the glove in.
position on the hand.
Referring tov the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof andon which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 shows arear view of the glove,.
Figure 2 a front view,
Figure?) a 'detail of a re-enforcing tip for a finger, and
'Figure 4, a re-enforce for the back of In the drawings 10 indicates the gauntlet portion of a glove having a back'll which may be formed in one piece orin several .The palm portion of the glove, as shown, is provided with a re-enforcement 12 of leather or simi lar material extending over the entire palm, the front of the fingers and the? inside of the thumb. The back of the thumb is provided with a separate re-enforcing piece 13 of leather or thelike as shownin'Figure 4.
Bifurcated re-enforcing portions 14.- are pro vided for the rear of the finger-tips and are sewed to the palmre enforcing member 12 at their tips and along their edgesas at 15,
- .the forked ends of members 14 extending along the inside of the fingers and the lower .edges of adjacent portions 16 being sewed toget er at the .crot'ches of the fingers. The edges 17 are stitched to the rear of the fingers aS'ShQWn at 18.
The extreme edges of the palm re-enforcement extend over the sides of the hand and are connected by an elastic band" 19 which servesto draw together the wrist portion of i the. glove and holds it' inplace on the hand.-
Preferably the ,frontandback of the, hand of, the gloves of my invention are made of fieeced cotton cloth as is also the front of the Gloves, of which the fol-- thumb and the front and'back covering for the fingers. The gauntlet may be made of cotton cloth with re-enforcement of canvas, or of canvas or other stifl material by itself. It will be seen that the palm and the inside of the thumb and fingers are re-enforced' as usual and further that the crotches between the fingers and the parts in rear of the finger-tips which are ordinarily not reenforced and therefore specially subject to wear, are fully protected .in my glove. Furthermore this re-enforcement is so applied as not to stiffen the fingers needlessly since it extends only over the extreme tip of the finger and down along the sides.
Having'thus fully described. my said invention, what I- claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. A glove made of cloth having a gauntlet attached thereto, said glove having a reenforcing strip extending over the palm and the inside of'the thumb and fingers, re-' enforcingmeans for the rear of the fingers comprising a single piece of re-enforcmg material for each finger, bifurcated symmetrically to form re-enforcing portlons adapted to extend down alon the sides of each finger to the crotches of adgacent fingers; other means for re-enforcing the rear of the thumb comprising a singlepiece of re-enforcing material having a trapezoidal base securedadjacent the point'where the gaunt- .let is fastened to, the glove, and a rounded top portion extending to the top of the thumb, substantially as set forth.
2. A glove having re-enforcing means for the thumb and fingers, a piece of re-enforcing material for the rear of the thumb and each nger, symmetrically bifurcated to form forked portions adapted to extend down along the sides of each finger, the lower edge a single piece of re-enforcing material for of adjacent forked portions being sewed tomy hanil and seal at Knoxville, Tennessee gether at the crotches of the fingers, each this 30th day of July, A. D. nineteen hunpiece of finger re-enforcing material having dred and twenty-one.
an upper portion adapted to re-enforce the ARCH KYLE. [14. s.] 5 rear tip of the finger, substantially as set Vitnesses:
forth. 0. G. SANDBERG,
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set WV. R. CoRNWELL.
