To all whom it may concern Be it known that L'JanUn Sanowsnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Laclrawanna and State oi Pennsylvania, have invented. ccrtain new and useful Improvements in Rail Supports, of which the following is a specification.
An important object of this invention is the provision of means for securing and preventing railway rails from spreading and also from longitudinal. separation.
A further object is the means provided whereby the rails are rigidly interlocked. with spacing plates adapted to be secured to the usual type of railway ties or sleepers.
These and other objects of equal importance are attained by the novel construction.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 6 represents the head of a rail hav" ing a vertical web 7 positioned centrally oi the double flanged bottom 8.
An arcuate ended spacing plate 10 is provided with transverse parallel sided depressions 11., near the ends. Oppositel v opposed notched teeth 12 are formed with the depressions and are of equal width.
The spaces 13 are of similar width, while the center spaces 14 are approximately twice the width of the teeth 12.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that a practical means has been disclosed by which rails may be positively and removably connected to transverse plates having interlocking means therewith and adapted to completely overcome the danger of rails spreading and compelling the rails to be maintained in intimate end engagement, sutiicient looseness beingprovided to permit thenecessary expansion and contraction in the rail lengths.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a non-spread rail support, the combination with a flanged rail having spaced slots through the flanges at the ends thereof, of a rail spacing plate having transverse depressions formed on the top of said plate, rectangular teeth oppositely disposed and extending toward the center of the depression, a plurality of recesses formed between said teeth, one of the opposite pair of recesses being of greater width'than the other recesses, and means with said teeth and recesses for interlocking the rails and spacing plates.
2. In a non-spread rail support, the com bination with a flanged rail, having spaced slots through its flanges, of a plate for spacing the rails, there being depressions, transversely of the plate receptive of the slotted ends of said flanged rails, clamps for holding the rails in said depressions, screws for securing the clamps, and means for preventing said clamps from retractive movement.
3. In a non-spread rail support, the combination with a flanged rail, of a rail spacing plate securable to said rails and having recesses formed at the ends, there being slots formed at the ends of the rail flanges, toothed prongs adjacent the slots, the outer prong being one half the width of the next adjacent prong, interlocking projections in the recess of the plate, and means therewith for1 engaging the abutting end of a pair of ral s. r
4. In a non-spread rail support, the combination With a flanged rail, of a rail spacing plate, toothed interlocking means between said plate and rails clampsfor maintaining intimate connection between the plates and the rails, screws for securing the clamps, projections on said clamps, co-act- Zing depressions formed in the plates, means for preventing retiactive action of tie clamps, and means with said sp'acingplate for maintaining said-rails in parallel alinement.
