Description

E. B.BAR| ER. Photographic Cameo Embossing-Presses.
No. 143,608, Patenredocz. 14,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
' ERASTUS B. BARKER, OF BROOKLYN,.ASSIGNOR TO E. ANTHONY & OO., OF NEW YORK, N. Y. l
IMPROVEMENT IN PHTOGRAPHIC CAMEO-EMBOSSING PRESSES'.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.143,608, dated October 14, 1873 application filed October 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EEAsTUs B. BAEKER,
vbelow against the under `side of the die, rendering itnecessary to elevate the press upon egs. l
In my press the bed rests iat upon the table and supports the elastic block, and the die is pressed down upon the picture by a lever with two actuating cams or eccentrics. Thereby the press is more compact, strong, cheap, durable,
and efficient, and can be easily changed to act. I
with dies of different sizes and shapes.
In the drawing, Figure 1 isa plan, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section at the line x w, with the picture in place.
The bed-plate a is made with a' rim, 2, within which the elastic block or bed bis inserted, and there are side standards c, receiving the fulcruin-pin d of the lever e; and f f are the actuating cams or eccentrics that are employed for pressing the die g upon the picture, and
embossing the same by the action of the elastic bed beneath the picture. When the lever is not in use the lug t', resting upon the standard c, sustains the same in position and allows the springs h to lift the die g, thereby giving access between the die and elastic bed for entering and withdrawing the picture.
The springs h, acting at both sides of the die g, raise the same with uniformity, and the die is held in place by ribs or projections upon the inner surfaces of the standard c, as shown by dotted lines, entering notches inthe sides of the die.
Bydrawing out the' elastic bed b the die g can be pressed down against the action of the springs h sufficiently to be free from the aforesaid ribs, and then it may be removed and/another die introduced in its place.
This press is very compact, strong, cheap, and durable. The picture can be easily introduced or withdrawn, and one press is adapted to a variety of dies.
I claim as my invention- The springs h, acting between the bed a. and' die g, in combination with the removable elastic block b, changeable die g, and actuating lever e, and cams f, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me this 10th day of October, A. D. 1872. Y
